Usually there are restrictions on how those records can be used, particularly by employers, landlords, and financial institutions. Suspect Had Been Known To Campus Police
Jones had come to campus authorities attention in September, when authorities found out Jones had made a comment about possessing a gun to someone unaffiliated with the university, Longo said at Mondays news conference. But that person never actually saw the gun in question, he said.
Through the course of the threat assessment teams investigation, we learned of a prior criminal incident involving a concealed weapon violation that occurred outside the city of Charlotteville in February of 2021, Longo said, adding the suspect was required to report that incident to the university but never did. The schools judicial council took over the case, and the results are pending.
Jones was also involved in a hazing investigation on campus that was closed because witnesses would not cooperate, Longo said.
It is important to share that information with you, he said, to let you know that he had been called to our attention.
Jones is listed on UVAs athletics website as a football player in 2018 who as a freshman did not participate in any games. He attended Varina High School and Petersburg High School, where he played football as a linebacker and running back, according to his university athletics bio. While in high school, Jones was Key Club president and a member of the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society, the bio says.
Can I Find Out Who Reported Me To The Police
Generally, you wouldnt know who reported you to the police officers. The police cant come to your house and say, hey, Mr A or Mrs B asked us to arrest you. That would be abnormal, and you wouldnt even believe that.
The police do not disclose the identity of the person that arrested you except for some instances. Lets say you are being arrested for a rape case even if the police do not want to disclose their identity at first, with time, you will get to know, especially if that case warrants that you go to court.
However, the police might block any information identifying the complainant if it is just a minor investigation. It is to prevent the person from trying to get back with whoever reported them to the police.
In summary, it is dependent on the crime involved that will determine if the identity of the person that reported you to the police will be disclosed. You can also request the information of the person. That reported you to the police officers.

Can The Police Tell You Who Reported You
One of the most frequently asked questions is whether police officials can disclose the identity of the person who reported to them. The answer is yes. The police records are often kept public for everyone, which implies that the report is accessible to anyone who wants to read them.
However, their name may sometimes want to be protected or removed from the report for specific reasons. For example, police officers may remove the complainants name if they are a minor or if the person requests to be anonymous in the report. However, an anonymous reporter means there is no victim.
Federal Prosecutors Working With Local Authorities
Before the lockdown was lifted, UVA students early Monday were told to take the shelter in place commands seriously as the situation remains active, vice president and chief student affairs officer Robyn Hadley said in an email to UVAs student body.
We have all received several shelter in place texts, and they are frightening, Hadley said, adding several police jurisdictions were working to find the suspect. I am on grounds like many of you I am sheltering in place and in direct touch with University leadership and UPD If you are not inside and safe, immediately seek safety.
Two UVA students who told CNN they were at the scene of the shooting Sunday night and saw part of it unfold described hearing faint popping noises and watching people flee the bus.
The students both of whom are 21 and did not want to be identified said they were walking to the gym when they saw the charter bus, still in motion. It was just after 10 p.m. when they heard the popping noises, the students said, but they didnt think anything of it. The bus was going over a speed bump, they said, but then they saw it stop and saw emergency lights turn on.

How To Make Your Request
In most cases, you should make your request to your local police force which would hold records on local systems. However, if you would like access to information held on national police systems, such as the Police National Computer , you would need to contact ACRO.
If you no longer live in the UK, contact the police force for the area where you last lived.
If you have been in contact with the police because you were a witness or victim, or because of a traffic accident, then this information may not be available to other police forces. In these cases you should contact the police force you dealt with at the time.
Although you dont have to use them, police application forms will help you understand what details you need to provide so they can find the information you have requested. It will also outline what proof of ID they will need to see. For example, they may ask you when you have been in contact with the police and why, and whether you have lived in another part of the UK. You can make a request verbally or in writing. If you make your request verbally, we recommend you follow it up in writing to provide a clear trail of correspondence. It will also provide clear evidence of your actions.

Police have in custody a University of Virginia student and ex-UVA football player suspected of fatally shooting three current players and wounding two other people late Sunday at the schools main campus in Charlottesville as a bus returned from a class field trip, school officials said.
The suspect, Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., faces three charges of second-degree murder and three counts of using a handgun in the commission of a felony, UVA Police Chief Timothy Longo Sr. told reporters Monday morning as an hourslong manhunt came to an end and authorities lifted a campus lockdown order.

Can I Find Out Who Reported Me
The Department of Children and Families is not allowed to tell you the name of the person who reported you. This information is withheld or redacted from the reports.
Sometimes, the person who makes the report does not even give their name to DCF.
Many people who work with children have to report to DCF when they think a child is being abused or neglected. They are called “mandated reporters.” Mandated reporters are people like doctors, teachers, daycare workers, and social workers.
Even though DCF cannot tell you who reported you, they do have to tell you what the person said. Sometimes you can figure out who made the report. If you think the person who reported you is angry at you or wants to make things difficult for you or your family, you may want to tell the DCF worker. But if you think the person who reported you to DCF is someone who abused you, talk to a domestic violence advocate before you tell the DCF worker. The DCF worker may tell the person who reported you what you say.

How To Get A Police Report
By law, certain police records and violation reports prepared and maintained by the Police Department are accessible to the general public.
If you need to get a copy of a police report, do this. First, begin by researching the requirements of the police department responsible for the jurisdiction in which the incident occurred. Then, follow the departments exact protocol for requesting and receiving those records. Start by checking the police departments website. Expand your search to the city website if you dont find anything on the police departments website.
Obtain and Fill Out Request Forms
Some departments may require that you complete a request form, sometimes called a request for public records. This may also be known as a request for open records. When you check the department website, look to see if you can download the request form from their site. If so, fill out the request form and submit it according to the directions.
Most request forms will require you to provide the first and last names of at least one of the involved parties. In addition, youll need the location, date, and time of the incident, and in some cases, the incident or case number.
Submitting the Request Form
Important Notes Regarding Submitting Requests for Police Reports

- Charges for obtaining copies of the documents may vary by city or jurisdiction
- Very few departments allow access to records online
Your Confidentiality Rights If Reporting A Neighbour
Many people are often put off reporting a crime or any incidence of nuisance or anti-social behaviour for fear of the police or other authority not respecting their confidentiality, and the threat of reprisals.
Although there are laws in the UK which deal with a personâs rights with regards to privacy and confidentiality, when it comes to police matters, this all has to be weighed up in the context of the Data Protection Act, Human Rights Act and Freedom of Information Act, when you might be a witness to a serious crime and may be required to testify against an alleged offender in court.
General Guidelines
Whoever you wish to make a complaint to, they will generally be able to guarantee your confidentiality. In fact, local authorities, housing associations and the police are all keen to highlight their commitment to ensuring that any information they receive from the public will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
These authorities are well aware that a lack of confidentiality could prevent people from coming forward to offer them information that might be very useful in reducing crime and Anti-Social Behaviour.
Using Remote Third Parties
Many people are simply too scared of what might happen if they walk into a police station to report something, or are worried about how it will be perceived by the rest of the neighbourhood if uniformed police officers or council officials turn up on their doorstep.
