What Is The Cut Off Age For Police
Minimum / Maximum Age Requirement While most agencies require you to be 21 by academy graduation date, some take cadets as young as 18. The maximum age can vary widely. Do not assume that just because you are over 30, your chances of becoming a police officer are over. Some agencies have no maximum age .

Phoenix Police Department Information
The Phoenix Police Department is divided into seven precincts, and within those, 19 squad districts, which are further divided into patrol beats. The department also has specialty divisions including Cold Case-Homicide, the Gun Enforcement and Intelligence Squad, and the Violent Crimes Bureau. Most PPD officers begin their careers in patrol to earn the experience required to work in specialized assignments. To qualify for promotion to sergeant, officers must have four years of service with the PPD and a bachelors degree.4

When Do I Take The Physical Fitness Test
There is a virtual physical fitness test for all applicants as part of the initial applicant screening process. Eligible applicants will be invited to participate an in-person physical fitness test after your background interview. Recruit applicants will take the written test and in-person physical fitness test on the same day. Lateral applicants will take the physical exam at the same time as the recruit applicants.

Phoenix Police Officer Training Prerequisites And Educational Requirements
To be a police officer in Phoenix, candidates must be at least 21 years of age and a US citizen, meet visual acuity and physical fitness requirements, have a drivers license with an acceptable driving record, and have a high school diploma or GED. Candidates must not have been convicted of any felony, and may be disqualified for certain misdemeanors. Applicants must also demonstrate consistent and responsible employment and financial histories. It is a competitive process and a relatively small number of applicants are accepted from each starting pool.
Accepted applicants will attend 20 weeks of training at the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy in Phoenix. The officer training program is based on tactical, physical, academic, and driving modules. Candidates are advised to begin a regular physical fitness routine prior to arriving at the academy to be prepared for the physical demands of the program. After graduation new recruits are assigned to patrol, where they complete additional field training.

Phoenix Police Officer Job Description
The life of a Phoenix police officer is about more than just arresting criminals. After graduating from the police academy, all newly sworn officers must work for two years in patrol in one of the Patrol Divisions seven precincts. How To Enter A Police Academy
Getting into a police academy is not an easy task. Most of them require applicants to undergo rigorous examinations and background checks. These tests and checks are done to screen any student who may not be fit to work as a police officer. Furthermore, some police academies accept only students who are already employed by a police department.
The minimum educational requirement for a police trainee is a high school diploma. However, there some police academies that still prefer an applicant with a bachelor or associate degree.
Other requirements necessary to apply for a police academy include a US citizenship and age above 18 or 21 years old, depending on the police department. The United States Capitol Police, however, requires applicants to be at least 21 years of age.
Most academies disqualify candidates who have any criminal backgrounds, or felony offenses from training. They may also conduct a thorough background investigation on any person who wishes to apply.
If the applicant passes all these requirements, he will then have to take various entrance exams police academies carry out. Each police academy has the freedom to formulate its exams and schedule. Hence, an applicant must prepare for the exam made his chosen academy.
Arizona Trooper Or Highway Patrol Requirements
The Arizona Highway Patrol Division was established in 1931. The HPD is comprised of four Patrol Bureaus, a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau, and an Aviation Section. There is also a dedicated DUI squad. As of 2016, the HPD employed 575 troopers and 121 command staff.3 The starting salary for HPD troopers is $40,275 per year.3
In order to become a part of the Arizona Highway Patrol, officers must meet the above-listed state guidelines for police officers. It is strongly recommended that prospective troopers request and complete a Ride Along with a trooper before applying, which serves as an informational interview and introduction to the field.

Weapons Defensive And Offensive Tactics
One of the most sensitive and crucial topics that a police officer must learn is the proper handling of firearms. This subject will teach you the proper use, maintenance, and display of your weapons. You will also learn how to deal with situations that involve aggressors. Such as the use of defensive and disarming maneuvers.
Firearms Training & Qualifications
All recruits must achieve minimum passing scores in two of three daytime qualification attempts and one of two nighttime attempts with an authorized duty handgun on a 50 round course of fire.
SALETC utilizes firearms simulation training systems to test each recruit officers judgment when faced with shoot/dont shoot decisions. Each officer must pass the judgmental shooting training.
Each recruit will also receive instruction on the use of a shotgun and will participate in a practical firearm-training course.
Recruit officers are responsible for the security of their issued weapons at all times. Weapons shall not be left in plain sight unattended under any circumstances. Weapons shall not be brought to the academy until instructed by a supervisor or firearms training instructor.

Arizona Police Officer Requirements
The Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board sets the minimum requirements for Arizona cops. While these minimum requirements apply to all potential police officers in the state, individual police departments can set additional requirements. For example, a police department may require recruits to hold an associate degree in criminal justice or a related field.
