Paying Your Traffic Bail/fines
If you choose a statutory procedure for traffic cases that requires the deposit of bail or if the court otherwise orders you to deposit bail, you will need to deposit bail with the court. You may also choose not to challenge the ticket and to simply pay the traffic bail. The court can tell you what amount to pay for your ticket. The fine, penalties, and fees for infractions can be $490 or more.
After the court has processed your ticket, you may be able to pay online, by phone, in person at the court, or by mail. Check the ticket, reminder notice, or court website to see whether you can pay by phone or online.
Financial hardship and ability to pay If you have a financial hardship and can show that you are unable to pay the full amount for the offenses on your traffic ticket, you may request the court to consider your ability to pay with a paper form, or through an online system if your court has made the MyCitations online system available. Either the Cant Afford to Pay Fine form or the online MyCitations tool can be used to make a request for an adjustment in amount owed at any time the judgment remains unpaid including cases that have been referred to collections. After you make a request, you can only make another one if your financial circumstances change. Most infraction offenses are eligible to use MyCitations, but some offenses require you to appear before the court.

Know Your Citation Number
Both local and Louisiana State Trooper tickets will be clearly marked with a citation number. The court handling your case will need and refer to this number for everything associated with your case. Make sure that you know this number and include it on any and all correspondence, payment, or other contacts relating to your ticket.
This will prevent misinformation and ensure that your actions and payments are recorded properly.

Widespread Drivers Ed Course Cuts
Faced with the need to reduce expenses, a trend developed in which schools first made drivers ed an elective and then eliminated it altogether. This course isnt the only casualty of budget cuts. Parents and students commonly express dismay when schools eliminate courses in music, art, and physical education. Eliminating drivers ed creates an additional problem since learning to drive is an important life skill that most people want to master.
Dont Lose Your Ticket
This may sound obvious, but losing tickets happens more often than you might think. Its also a much bigger hassle than youd likely expect.
The simple fact is that you cant address your ticket if you dont know who issued it. A Baton Rouge traffic ticket isnt the same as a Louisiana State Trooper ticket. To find the information that you need to get your ticket dismissed or paid off, youll need the ticket itself.
While it is possible to get your ticket information if you do lose it, doing so can be frustrating and time-consuming. Save yourself the trouble and put your ticket somewhere safe and easy to retrieve as soon as you get it.
