How Do I Get A ‘police Clearance Certificate’ Or Criminal Record
There is no such thing as a police clearance certificate in New Zealand. If you are convicted of a crime, a criminal record is created and held in a database by the Ministry of Justice. If you are asked for a police clearance certificate, police record, police file, police check, or criminal check, a copy of your criminal record from the Ministry of Justice should meet the requirements. If you have no convictions, you will receive a letter stating that is the case.

Certified Criminal Record Checks With Fingerprints

Who Can Check Your Criminal Record
Employers can check your criminal record no matter what role you apply for. This is called a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
For certain roles an employer can request a more detailed DBS check, for example if youll be working with children or in healthcare.
Your employer can still request a basic check if they cannot get a more detailed check for your role.

If you are interested in obtaining your criminal record to see what it says about yourself, getting one is fairly easy. Landlords and potential employers order criminal backgrounds all the time to screen the history of potential renters and employees. You can order a background check of yourself online or in person.
State Jurisdictions And Local Records
If you want to order a criminal background check on yourself, some of the best places to check are your local police department or the Department of Justice in your state. Each state in the country stores information regarding criminals. They will usually make a hard copy as well as a digital database.
Each state has a different way that they handle background checks. Youll need to check to see if you must visit the local courthouse, police station in your city or county or the Department of Justice. Fortunately, some states make it easy by offering an online ordering option.
Requesting And Completing An Application

What Databases Are Searched
The Calgary Police Service uses three search mechanisms:
- P.I.M.S. – Local records of the Applicant’s involvement with Calgary Police Service
- J.O.I.N. – The Alberta court system
- C.P.I.C. – The Canadian Police Information Centre system and R.C.M.P. National repository in Ottawa.
This Police information check only provides information found at the time of the check, on the above listed systems. The Calgary Police Service does not guarantee completeness of the information, as we are limited to information available on these systems.
This check does not include information found in any other jurisdiction’s local police information system nor does it include court information from any other provinces, except convictions registered on the National Repository for Canada and information entered onto the Canadian Police Information Centre System.
Schools And School Bus Operators
Under the terms of the Act to amend the Education Act and the Act respecting private education , any person who may be assigned to work, is working, or regularly in contact with the minor-age students of a private school or school board must, before being hired, or at the request of the relevant educational institution, hand in a declaration concerning their judicial record.
The institution may, or can be obligated to, as the case may be, have this declaration checked by a police force.
Obtaining a memorandum of understanding
In order to submit a request for background verification, educational institutions and school bus operators must first sign a memorandum of understanding with the SPVM concerning the verification of judicial records.

Did You Receive An Attend Letter
If you receive an “attend” letter after submitting your application, follow instructions andcall 3-1-1 for an appointment at Westwinds location only.
Individuals are requested to “follow-up” and attend the Police Information Check for a variety of reasons. Follow-up requests may be related to:
- submission of fingerprints to confirm or eliminate a criminal record associated to an applicants information
- submission of fingerprints for the Vulnerable Sector search to confirm or eliminate a pardon associated to applicants information. Please see the RCMP website for more information:
- to deal with outstanding warrant on the National Police Computer System
- disclosure of police related relevant occurrence report
- Failure to submit a self-declaration form if you have existing criminal conviction
NOTE: The above information cannot be discussed over the phone however the Police Information Check Unit will disclose this follow-up request when you attend.
Important Vulnerable Sector Search Criteria: After May 31, 2017, applicants who have made application for a Police Information Check and fingerprinted for a Vulnerable Sector Search by the Calgary Police Service with a negative result to a pardoned sex offender file will not be required to re-submit fingerprints for 4 years.

Ordering A Texas Background Check Online
Texas online background checks may be conducted by members of the public on subjects of their choosing. The requestor must supply identification details about the individual he or she wishes to investigate to ensure that their results pertain to the subject in question.

Identity History Summary Checks For Employment Or Licensing
If you are requesting a background check for employment or licensing within the U.S., you may be required by state statute or federal law to submit your request through your state identification bureau, the requesting federal agency, or another authorized channeling agency.
The FBIs authority to conduct an Identity History Summary check for noncriminal justice purposes is based upon Public Law 92-544. Disclosure Of Youth Records

A certified criminal record check is similar to the regular criminal record check, except that it includes a full set of fingerprints from an authorized agency. You may need a certified criminal record check for adoption, citizenship or visa applications or work permits. Certified criminal record checks are done through your local RCMP detachment.
