What Is The Workplace Of A Police Officer Like
Police officers rarely work a regular, 40-hour week. Officers work late at night, on the weekends, and even on holidays. Most police officers work outdoors while on patrol, and are subjected to all types of weather conditions. Police work is also mentally gruelling. Officers often witness terrible crimes or become the focus of a criminal’s rage and abuse. Police officers must handle the stress brought on by these situations while remaining calm and collected.
Working as a police officer can bring on a range of emotions. It can leave you feeling satisfied, sad, rewarded, disgruntled, lonely and fulfilled, all within the same shift. A police officer needs to be a warrior, an information booth, a social worker, a guardian angel, a marriage counselor, and an arbitrator . The mental challenges are far more rigorous than all of the physical challenges put together.
Police officers carry the power of life and death on their hips, and are empowered to do things that, were they done by civilians, would get those civilians arrested. They can control traffic, take and imprison people against their will, and seize property. However, they are constantly reminded of the constraints that they must work under in order to exercise that power lawfully and fairly.

What Is Kelly Saying Now
Kelly, who was a 19-year-veteran of the police department, wants his job back. He spoke to the Daily Mail in an interview on Friday after the Rittenhouse verdict, explaining why he thought Rittenhouse was innocent.
Everything Im saying is just my personal opinion. Ive been a homicide detective, a violent crimes investigator for years. I have a background. I watched the video of the shooting and Id seen the video of the journalists of Mr. Rittenhouse before the shooting and the protesters before the shooting and I thought it painted a pretty clear picture that Mr. Rittenhouse had a very strong claim for self-defense, Kelly explained.
I was very surprised when he was charged soon after the shooting with these murders and the shooting of the third victim, he added.
I was interested in giving him the chance to defend himself in front of a jury. I know that lawyers are expensive, and its hard sometimes to get the message out there. I wanted to make sure that he had the means necessary to make his claim in court, Kelly told the Daily Mail. It mattered. The comments I made, my belief that he has a strong claim for self-defense was a personal opinion. I didnt want my city or police department to be associated with it, so I chose to donate anonymously.
Kelly also said his opinion about the Rittenhouse case had no impact on my ability to do my job as a police officer, and should not have resulted in his termination.

Many college students think of their criminal justice degree as a means to obtain police employment. Alternatively, if they are already on the job, they think in terms of how the job will enhance their promotional opportunities. What most dont think about is how classroom instruction relates directly to doing the job. In other words, yes, a criminal justice degree will make you a more prepared candidate during the police officer selection process, but it will also make you a better police officer. Here are three ways the classroom is going to help you on the street.
Every good investigation, undercover operation, and street bust ends with paperwork. Police work involves reams upon reams of paper. Often, the better the arrest, the more complex the arrest report. Just making that good arrest isnt enough police work is about documenting what we saw, heard, collected, or did. Good police work is about writing clear, concise, and comprehensive reports that ensure the district attorney will file charges and a jury will convict.

Will The Police Officer Fired For Donating To Rittenhouse Get His Job Back
Norfolk, Virginia Police Lieutenant William Kelley was abruptly fired back in April of this year when the Guardian released information on police officers and public officials who offered donations to Kyle Rittenhouses legal defense fund.
Now that Rittenhouse has been acquitted of all charges, Kelley is demanding that he get his job back.
Kelley donated $25 to the Rittenhouse defense fund, and did so through his department-issued email address. Kelley left a message alongside the donation that said God bless. Thank you for your courage. Keep your head up. Youve done nothing wrong. Every rank and file police officer supports you. Dont be discouraged by actions of the political class of law enforcement leadership.
Upon terminating Kelley, Chip Filer, the city manager of Norfolk said that Kelleys comments were egregious and eroded trust between the police department and the public. Norfolk Chief of Police Larry Boone echoed Filers statements.
Kelly, a 19-year veteran from the police department, is demanding his job back after the Friday verdict of the Rittenhouse trial. Kelly explained why he believed that Rittenhouse was innocent at the time. Kelly cited his experience as both a violent crimes investigator and homicide detective, saying that after reviewing footage of Rittenhouses incident, he believed that there was a very strong claim of self defense.
