Winnipeg Police Service Physical Abilities Test
The WPS-PAT is conducted in a gymnasium with the applicant wearing clothing appropriate for physical activity and consists of:
- Running 400 metres over a six lap course. This includes climbing up and down stairs, jumping over low obstacles.
- Following the six laps the applicant moves to the push/pull station where they will pull and push against 80 lbs of resistance while moving in a controlled half circle. Two controlled falls to the chest are completed after each group of three pulls or three pushes. This sequence is repeated twice.
- Following the push/pull station the applicant completes the test by lifting and carrying 80 lbs a distance of 50 feet.
- The WPS-PAT test must be completed within 4 minutes and 15 seconds.
Note: A WPS-PAT certificate in not required to apply, is valid for one year and must be completed prior to the panel interview

What Are The Education Requirements
To apply for this program, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Submit a college transcript showing 60 completed college semester credits at an associate degree level or higher, in any subject area. Failure grades will not count toward this 60 credit requirement. The applicant shall possess a general educational development diploma or be a high school graduate who has completed a secondary education program through a public school, private school, an equivalency diploma program, or home education program within the United States or it territories. Students who have been home schooled must contact the Public Safety office at 920-491-2627.
- Hold an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. The same high school requirements apply as listed above.
- Have status as an officer currently employed by a law enforcement agency.

General Police Program Requirements
Ontario college police programs require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, with a grade 12 English credit. Additional requirements will vary by institution.
Along with academic requirements, physical and mental competency testing, First Aid training and a Police Record Check could all be required. Volunteer experience in the community will be seen as an asset.
