Eligible candidates must earn passing scores on the California Peace Officer Standards and Training written exam, physical agility exam, and a 1.5-mile run. Next, applicants must complete a personal history questionnaire, which is the foundation of the departments full background check, as well as a panel interview with an SJPD oral board. Those who move on to the next stage of the process will be conditionally hired as recruits and complete 24 weeks of training at the San Jose Police Academy, followed by 17 weeks of field training.

Helpful Tips And Information
Candidates should wear shorts, sweat pants or loose fitting clothing that will not restrict arm or leg movements and comfortable shoes with a gripping rubber sole. Prior to the start of each test, candidates will be provided with a three-pound bullet proof vest, which must be worn during the obstacle course. Please bring your own bottle of drinking water. Test monitors will be present at the time of the test to describe the test more fully and answer any questions.
Due to the physical stress involved in taking this test, it is recommended that each candidate increase their overall physical fitness well in advance to avoid injury and possible failure. Most candidates who fail the obstacle course were unable to scale the 6 foot wall and/or successfully drag the 165 pound simulated victim the required distance. A candidate may find that he or she can scale the 6 foot wall or drag the simulated victim the entire distance while rested, but not after completing all of the required parts of the obstacle course prior to those events. Obviously, cardiovascular fitness plays an important role in ones ability to successfully complete this examination. Preparation and practice will increase the candidates chances of passing this examination. Candidates who pass the physical agility test will be given the date and time of their oral interview.

Videos of the incident show Dages pushing Johnson into a seated position, which Taschner said occurred multiple times. Dages alleged in his report that Johnson balled his fists, took a bladed stance and struck him on the arm.
According to Taschner, Dages confronted, detained and arrested a young man who had done nothing wrong and then he lied about it in his police report.
Johnson was later arrested on suspicion of assault on an officer, and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer.
He was released on a misdemeanor citation, but the police department later announced it would not be seeking charges against Johnson, who has filed a federal lawsuit against Dages and the city of La Mesa.
Dages, who had been employed by the department since 2018, was fired a few months later.
Dages attorney, Jeremiah Sullivan, said jurors would see Dages did nothing wrong when you take off the aggressive lens from this case.
The attorney said that from Dages vantage point, Johnson was holding what appeared to be a smoking device to his mouth. He said Johnson was also in an area where people cannot loiter without a fare or bus pass and lied to Dages by claiming he was a resident of the apartment complex, but later admitted he did not live there.
When Johnsons friends arrived, Sullivan said, the situation changed drastically, with Johnson and his friends screaming and cursing at Dages.
Officer Dages absolutely submitted a 100% truthful and accurate report, Sullivan told jurors.

Education Requirements To Become A Police Officer In San Diego
To be eligible for this job, you will need to meet a certain education criteria. The following are the three options you would have in this regard:

San Francisco Police Department Academy
Basic training for all SFPD recruits occurs at the San Francisco Police Department Regional Training Facility, also known as the SFPD Academy. The academys goal is to get officers mentally and physically ready for the demanding police work that lies ahead of them. The basic training academy course is a 664-hour course with training in 42 topics, including the law, the use of weapons, responding to critical incidents, and communication. Most instruction is held during the day, though some night training is included.

San Jose Police Officer Training Prerequisites And Educational Requirements
Candidates for police officer jobs with the San Jose Police Department must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid drivers license, be a US citizen or permanent resident who has applied for citizenship, and have completed at least 40 semester college credits . Four years of US military service with an honorable discharge can waive the college credit requirement. All prospective recruits must have at least 20/40 uncorrected vision. Candidates who have any felonies or who have been convicted of domestic violence or assault misdemeanors will be disqualified. Minimum Age: 18
Volunteers must pass a City of San Diego Personnel Dept. background.
- Administrative support –projects that need to be completed for the FJC which involve clerical support and other assignments for staff
- Children’s room – supervising and engaging in activities with children in the children’s room which offers books, toys and games, and children’s videos
- Interpreters – assist with translating for clients
- Reception area – assist at our front desk welcoming clients, checking clients in, answering the phones, making copies and distributing mail
- Special projects –special events, grant writing, fundraising events, public relations and planning of community events.
Time Commitment: Our center is open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We require a minimum of 16 hours per month in four hour increments. We require the volunteer to make a nine month commitment as a volunteer here. It is absolutely acceptable if volunteers wish to work longer hours or stay longer than nine months.
