A: The pay rate for an off-duty officer is $35.00 per hour and the minimum length of a shift is 3 hours. A supervisor may be required due to the nature of the assignment or the number of officers working at the job site.
Q: How many contracts do I need for an event that requires several officers?
A: Individual contracts must be prepared for each officer hired
Q: Do officers use their marked patrol car for off-duty jobs?
A: Employers may have a marked patrol car parked at their business for $25.00 per 12-hr. shift . Or, a patrol car may be hired for traffic control purposes for $150.00 per 12-hr. shift. Vehicles used in this capacity for periods of less than 6 hours will be billed at the rate of $25.00 per hour.
Q: Can I pay officers with cash at the end of the event?
A: Officers may not receive cash and must be paid by check that is redeemable at a financial institution for the job assignment. If a vehicle is used for the assignment, a separate invoice will be sent for payment to be made to the City.
Q: Will officers hired be in uniform or plainclothes?
A: For virtually every assignment, officers will be required to be in full uniform and duty equipment. Only in exceptional circumstances, and with prior approval of the Chief of Police, can an officer work an assignment in plainclothes.

Off Duty Police Officer Request
The Atlantic Beach Police Department allows citizens to hire off-duty police officers to perform security and traffic control services. Officers are often hired to provide security and traffic control at large and small events, traffic control for projects in the roadway, security, and many other situations.
The hourly rate of pay charged by Atlantic Beach Police Department is $40.00 per hour with a 4 hour minimum for off duty police services, such as: residential parties, estate sales, security jobs and traffic control. Cancellations may be made at any time, however if the cancellation is less than 24 hours before the start of the requested time, a minimum of 4 hours salary will be incurred by the requesting party. The hourly rate of pay on the following days is $50.00 per hour, with a 4 hour minimum: New Years Eve, New Years Day, St. Patricks Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
If a police vehicle is needed to perform the job duties, an additional $25.00 fee per day/per vehicle is required, payable to the City of Atlantic Beach. A marked police vehicle is required with all traffic related off duty employment such as road construction and repairs. The police vehicle fee is required to offset the cost of the vehicles fuel and maintenance. Depending on the complexity of your request, a Peace Officer Coordinator may be required. The Coordinator will be responsible for scheduling the officers, work as your liaisonwith our agency andinvoice for officers and vehicles. The coordinator maycharge a coordinating fee.
