Police Officer Certification Process In Ga
The certification course is an intense 11-week training program offered by the Georgia Public Safety Training Center at seven locations throughout the state: Athens, Augusta, Columbus, Dalton, Forsythe, Savannah and Tifton. In addition there are two contract institutions at College Park and Austell.

Herbert T Jenkins Police Academy
Once recruits have been deemed eligible for hire, they must complete recruit training. Training takes place at the Atlanta police academy, formally known as the Herbert T. Jenkins Police Academy. Candidates must complete the vigorous 21-week program plus an additional 12 weeks of field and classroom training led by veteran officers. The program includes intense physical training, defensive training, firearm training, and hundreds of hours of classroom instruction. It is recommended that candidates begin a serious physical conditioning program prior to entering the academy. To graduate, candidates must run a mile and a half in less than 13 and a half minutes and run an obstacle course in one minute and 41 seconds.

Georgia State Patrol Training Prerequisites And Education Requirements
Though all candidates must meet the minimum requirements mentioned above, Georgia State Patrol recruiters place preference on candidates with advanced qualifications. Qualifications taken into consideration include previous law enforcement experience, prior military service, public service, and/or an associates degree, preferably in criminal justice. All candidates must also pass a physical fitness assessment, a polygraph exam, a background investigation, a written exam, a panel interview, and medical and psychological evaluations.
Once accepted as a recruit, cadets will complete Trooper School at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth. The training course is 31 weeks in length, which includes 18 weeks at the academy, 12 weeks of field training, and a final training week at the academy prior to graduation. In addition to physical training and testing, recruits study enhanced driving skills, defensive tactics, Spanish, criminal law and procedure, firearms skills, and other key competencies for state troopers. Drug Usage / Possession / Distribution
CONVICTIONS FOR DRUG RELATED VIOLATIONS. No applicant for the position of Police Officer may have in his / her lifetime, any convictions for any type drug use, possession, sale, or, involvement. Nolo Contendere and First Offender treatments are considered convictions.
ILLEGAL DRUG ACTIVITY. No applicant for the position of Police Officer may have ever been involved in the felony possession of a controlled substance deemed illegal at the time of possession regardless of the intent of the disposition of the substance. For the purpose of this section, felony possession will be defined by the Annotated Code of Georgia in effect at the time of the possession, regardless of where the offense was committed.
UNDETECTED CRIMES. Applicants who have by self admission, committed crimes against the state or any other government body which were never detected, shall be presumed to have committed the crime or act. The class or seriousness of the violation will be determined by the applicable Criminal Code of Georgia which was in effect at the time of the commission of the act/ crime regardless of where the act was physically committed.
ILLEGAL DRUG SALE AND DISTRIBUTION. Applicants for the position of Police Officer who have a history of involvement in the selling, trading, distributing, growing, transporting, storing, manufacturing, preparing, or possession of any substance or drug considered as controlled or illegal in accordance with the Annotated Code of Georgia are unacceptable.
