Ilea Announces Sexual Assault Investigators Course October 25

In 2021, the General Assembly mandated minimum standards for persons newly assigned to investigate sexual assault cases involving adult victims. This mandatory training must include instruction on the neurobiology of trauma, trauma-informed interviewing, and investigative techniques. IC 5-2-1-9 requires any law enforcement officer newly assigned after July 1, 2023 to investigate sexual assault cases involving adult victims to complete this training within one year of being so assigned. Officers should fulfill this requirement by attending a training, which includes these required topics, through a local agency, ILEA, or a national training platform, documenting it in ACADIS. In addition, any person currently assigned to investigate these cases may voluntarily attend such a training.

Police Pursuit Prompts Lockdown At Glynn Academy

A Georgia State Patrol trooper performed a pit maneuver on the stolen Audi Q SUV near Glynnvilla Apartments after which several people bailed from the vehicle and made a run for it.

Brunswick police apprehended a 14-year-old girl who was inside the vehicle, said Angela Smith, assistant chief of administration for the city police department.

No other suspects had been located late Monday afternoon, police said.

Between the police pursuit and subsequent search for suspects, Glynn Academy officials elected to go on emergency lockdown for the safety of students and faculty, said county schools police chief Rod Ellis. The lockdown was lifted at 3:20 p.m. and lasted about 30 minutes, he said.

The incident resulted from a robbery at around 7:50 a.m. Sunday in the 800 block of P Street in Brunswick, where a man reported being robbed of his “wallet, watch, phone and vehicle,” Brunswick police reported.

Police issued a countywide BOLO for the stolen Audi, which had a dealer license plate. The vehicle also had a dealership tracking device attached, Smith said.

Brunswick police used the device to locate the vehicle at around 2:20 p.m. on Evergreen Road near Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick hospital, police said.

The vehicle attempted to flee, and Brunswick police pursued it down Hopkins Avenue to U.S. 17, Smith said.

GSP troopers took the lead role in the pursuit as the vehicle went south on U.S. 17.

The vehicle turned on Gloucester Street and headed downtown.

Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy

I am pleased to announce the phased reopening of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy and POST Commission facilities. As you are all aware, current health concerns are compounded by the realities of a large residential law enforcement academy. In order to reopen as responsibly as possible, Governor Lee has approved us to begin training in very limited groups.

Please note that all students will undergo initial Covid-19 testing and periodic screening thereafter. Students attending Specialized classes will be required to reside on campus and will not be permitted to leave campus until the completion of training. Students attending POST Transition School or Basic Law Enforcement School will be required to reside on campus and will not be permitted to leave campus during the training week. They will be allowed to return to their homes on weekends but will be retested or screened upon their return for the next weeks training.

Minimum Standards For Employment

The minimum selection standards for peace officers in California are set forth in Government Code Sections 1029 and 1031. Every California peace officer must:

• Be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Be fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record
