How Do I Obtain Criminal Records

Interested persons who wish to look up criminal records have two options. The first is submitting an official request to the record custodian. If you cannot submit a police report request online or through the mail, then you will have to visit the police department in person and file a request there. Call beforehand since some departments only allow in-person requests on certain days. You can find your local police department here. Then you can find out about filling out a Police Department Request Form in person and how to get the information you need. Typically these police department request forms can be fulfilled that day.

A request will typically require you to provide your personal and contact information as well as details about the incident, including the type of incident, date, and who else was involved. Be aware that if the report pertains to an ongoing investigation then your request could be denied. If you are unclear about why your request was denied you should talk to an attorney.

Crash Data Request/bulk Request For Crash Ids

Individuals and organizations looking to submit bulk requests for crash IDs or crash data requests may do so by submitting an online Crash Data Request Form or an Open Records Request. Customers may also search public data by using the CRIS Query Tool. Annual reporting or data extract may also be useful to some customers.

• The Texas Department of Transportations retention period for records include the previous 10 full calendar years plus the current calendar year.
• The Texas Transportation Code requires that all crash records be purchased and therefore bulk requests for multiple crash reports cannot be provided.
