Hey fellow impactful ninja ?
You may have noticed that Impactful Ninja is all about providing helpful information to make a positive impact on the world and society. And that we love to link back to where we found all the information for each of our posts.
Most of these links are informational-based for you to check out their primary sources with one click.
But some of these links are so-called “affiliate links” to products that we recommend.
Why do we add these product links?
First and foremost, because we believe that they add value to you. For example, when we wrote a post about the environmental impact of long showers, we came across an EPA recommendation to use WaterSense showerheads. So we linked to where you can find them. Or, for many of our posts, we also link to our favorite books on that topic so that you can get a much more holistic overview than one single blog post could provide.
And when there is an affiliate program for these products, we sign up for it. For example, as Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.
What do these affiliate links mean for you?
First, and most importantly, we still only recommend products that we believe add value for you.
When you buy something through one of our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission – but at no additional costs to you.
Fundraisers Calling On Behalf Of Police And Firefighters
Every day, police and firefighters risk their lives to make your community safer. To show your support, you may consider making a donation when a fund-raiser calls from a fire or police service organization. Before you write the check, the Federal Trade Commission urges you to consider these facts:
- Simply having the words police or firefighter in an organizations name doesnt mean police or firefighters are members of the group.
- Just because an organization claims it has local ties or works with local police or firefighters doesnt mean contributions will be used locally or for public safety. The organization should be able to provide you with written information describing the programs your donation will support, and their fund-raising costs before you donate.
- Most solicitations for police and fire service organizations are made by paid professional fund-raisers.
- Donations to some police or firefighter groups may not be tax deductible. Many kinds of organizations are tax exempt, including fraternal organizations, labor unions, and trade associations, but donations to them may not be tax deductible.
Want to know where your public safety contributions are going? Taking the following precautions can help ensure that donation dollars will benefit the people, organization, or community you want to help.

Understand That The One Thing Cops Cant Stand More Than Criminals Are Bad Cops
There are bad cops out there who should not have a badge and a gun. LEOs are subject to extensive background checks, drug testing psychological evaluations, and must provide multiple character references and recommendations before they can even enter the academy. During their time in the academy, and while they are new officers on a probationary period, they are subject to dismissal if problems emerge. Some get through this process who shouldnt, or they change over time and become unfit for their position. Unethical police officers make all cops look bad. Ironically this is the very stereotyping and discrimination at work that the left decries.

Local Businesses Donate $400000 To We Are Santa Monica Fund To Support Police Cadet Program
SANTA MONICA, Calif. Last night, the Santa Monica City Council approved budget appropriations for a $400,000 donation to the We Are Santa Monica Fund to support the Santa Monica Police Department Cadet Program. This donation is one of the largest contributions ever made to the We Are Santa Monica Fund, and will expand the Police Cadet Program, enhancing public safety in Santa Monica while preparing Santa Monica young adults to pursue a career in public safety. The $400,000 donation includes $100,000 donations from three Santa Monica businesses and one individual: Douglas Emmett Properties, Macerich Management, Ocean Avenue LLC/Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows, and Mr. Jeff Worthe.
Since its creation in 1967, the Police Cadet Program has employed college students with the Santa Monica Police Department , where they spend several years rotating among various assignments to deepen their understanding of how SMPD supports all community members through its operations, while also serving as liaisons between the Department and local youth. Upon completion of the program, many participants go on to join the ranks of law enforcement agencies, as sworn officers or in civilian positions, both locally and federally as educated and uniquely qualified public servants. The program was cut as a result of the 2020 budget restructuring and, through this donation, will be reinstituted to support the futures of local youth.

Paul worked full time for the DeSoto County Fire Emergency Management Agency and served part-time with the DeSoto County Sheriffs Office. Paul was a full time handler of both an Explosives Detection Dog and a Tracking Bloodhound. Paul was a great father and husband and an incredible friend.
Paul was a very dedicated handler and constantly strove to learn as much as he could to improve performance of the working dogs in his area.
He organized a number of programs and seminars in his area to help other handlers and working dog organizations. Paul always encouraged networking among departments and handlers and constantly attempted to incorporate new ideas to promote strong handlers and productive working dogs. Paul was also the membership director of the American Police Dog Tactics Association. Paul was an asset to the K-9 community and will greatly be missed.

Donors Bill Of Rights
At the Seattle Police Foundation we take great pride in our responsible fundraising practices. We provide this Donors Bill of Rights as a tool for current and future donors to help raise awareness about charitable contributions:
Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have the rights:
1. To be informed of the organizations mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organizations governing board and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
3. To have access to the organizations most recent financial statements.
4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
6. To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by the law.
7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
Donating To Help Police Or Other First Responders
Some good charities do great work to help first responders, our everyday heroes. Unfortunately, a few charities say theyll help law enforcement officers, firefighters or their families, but do very little. They spend the vast majority of donations on fundraising, salaries and other expenses. Thats what happened with the Disabled Police and Sheriffs Foundation .
The FTC and the State of Missouri announced today that they stopped this sham charity. According to the complaint, DPSF conned people into donating more than $9.9 million. In telemarketing calls, DPSF fundraisers told people that donations would be used for grants to disabled officers and to the families of officers slain in the line of duty. But almost no one was helped. For example, in 2015, just five disabled officers and three families of fallen officers received grants. The majority of the money almost 95% went to the director of the organization and the fundraisers he hired.

How To Give A Police Officer A Gift
A law enforcement officer has impacted your life and you are wondering, is it appropriate to give a police officer a gift? Well, the answer is both yes and no. Technically police officers are not allowed to accept gifts from the public, and many officers will say that a verbal thank you is enough of a gift to show your appreciation. But sometimes this just does not seem to do justice for the effort and sacrifice an officer makes on the thin blue line. In these cases, its important to know how to give a police officer a gift in an appropriate and lawful manner.
Police Vs Firefighter Soccer Game
There is a fun rivalry between the police and firefighters in most communities. Both departments can have a little fun and raise needed funds by sharing this rivalry with the community.
Plan a soccer game or tournament to challenge the two departments. Encourage members of both departments to bring a crowd. Share the date and time of your games online and with the local press. Charge tickets and sell concessions to make it a fun event for all.
Pro tip: Another way to get the community involved is by asking local high-school or college soccer players to referee the games.
