Central Texas Buffalo Bills Fan Reacts To Damar Hamlin Injury

KILLEEN, Texas – Donnie Snider, of Killeen, says hes been a Buffalo Bills fan for decades, and says Monday nights injury to Damar Hamlin was hard to watch, though he says if any organization can come through the tragedy, its the Bills.

Snider has been trying to start up the Central Texas Chapter of Bills Backers by hosting watch parties at Rudys in Killeen. He describes himself as a die-hard fan, whos traveled to countless regular season and playoff games, even going on a cruise with hundreds of other Bills fans.

He says through those trips hes met countless Bills fans who have become like family, and are all coming together again in this tragedy.

Its more than a fandom, its a family. I even have a guy I met on the cruise who lives in Arizona invited me out there for the Super Bowl, even if the Bills make it or not. He invited me to go to Arizona and spend Super Bowl weekend with him. Its family, Snider explained.

Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field during Monday Night Football as the Bills faced the Cincinnati Bengals. Snider, an Army veteran, says he could tell right away that the injury was unlike anything hed seen in a game before.

It felt different, its how he collapsed, it was just an eery feeling. Seeing the players, grown men, showing emotion and crying on the field, I knew it was bad, Snider said.

If any team can go through something like this its the Buffalo Bills, its the culture that Shawn McDermott built in that city, Snider said.

The goal of the background check is to evaluate whether or not you have the moral, ethical and legal character essential to someone with the honor of carrying a weapon and badge. Preliminary investigations will look into criminal history as well as: education, residential history, employment history, driving record, credit score. Meet The Physical Fitness Requirements

If you’re not in shape now, you’re going to want to get there quicklyideally before your first day at the academy. The instructors will shout and yell, but they won’t ever hit you. You can expect to do plenty of pushups instead when a classmate screws upand rest assured that someone will.

When your arms get too tried to hold you in the front-leaning-rest position, turn on your back and do flutter kicks. These forms of physical exercise are a great way to instill both mental and physical discipline. They also teach you to push through pain and discomfort to accomplish a task, and this can help you survive a violent encounter when you get to the road.

Take this part seriously right from the beginning. You can’t graduate from the academy in some states without passing a physical fitness test. The test can include wall and fence climbing, sprinting, an obstacle course, and body drags.

Police Academy Physical Fitness Test

To pass the Police Academy fitness test, individuals need to be prepared mentally and physically. While each police department runs its own version of the physical exam, all tests are designed to test endurance, body strength and agility as well as the mental identification of each candidate.

  • The running segment

One of the most important challenges during a fitness test is to successfully complete the 1.5 mile run in 15:54 minutes or less. For men, completion within 10:30 to 12 minutes is roughly average. To excel in this element of the test, candidates must strive for a time of 9:44 or faster, in order to be placed among the best candidates.

For women, the average good time is around 13:30 to 16 minutes. A time under 12:30 minutes usually puts a candidate at the top of the class.

HPD has the same requirements for both men and women, but some departments differentiate test scores on the basis of gender. I recommend that you check the suitability testing requirements for your potential department.

Does The Police Academy Cost Anything

For many police recruits, attending the academy is not only free, but it will also earn them a salary. That’s because they have already been hired as police officers, and the academy, generally run by the hiring agency or the state in which they will be working, is considered part of the new job. These officers can expect to earn either their starting salary in full or a fraction of it, with the remainder kicking in upon graduation.

While many states, including Washington and Oregon, require recruits to be offered a jobbefore completing the academy, others allow aspiring officers to attend stand-alone academies, generally offered by community colleges and local tech schools. These programs do require students to pay tuition, which again will vary depending on the location and institution. The Basic Law Enforcement Training program at Wayne County Community College in North Carolina, for example, costs around $2,000 to attend. Some programs may also charge extra fees for things like the required background check, fingerprinting, application for state certification, physical evaluation and uniforms.

    Driver Education And Training Unit

The Driver Education and Training Unit trains uniformed officers and civilians to safely operate a variety of Police Department vehicles. The Department provides 31 different courses of instruction on approximately 20 different vehicle types, resulting in operator certification or a specialized license.

After the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, Police Academy: Mission to Moscow became the one of the first American movies to film in the formerly communist superpower. According to the Los Angeles Times, the cast and crew of the seventh and final entry in the Police Academy series filmed in Moscow for three weeks in late 1993 without incident or trouble until the post-Soviet power vacuum led to the military storming the Russian White House and TV Center.

During this period of violent unrest, Mission to Moscow temporarily shut down, and all 52 members of the cast and crew holed up in the government-owned Financial Academy Hotel. Unable to film an airport scene because of the military situation and subsequently declared state of emergency, the cast did what they needed to do at a hastily dressed studio. The situation improved enough for an outdoor shoot at a cemetery, although the filming coincided with burials of casualties of the unrest.

But then theres the time that Russian military officials rolled up on the film crew. According to Mission to Moscow DVD featurette Underneath the Mission, Michael Winslows wireless microphone picked up otherwise secret military communications, leading to a brief, tense, and ultimately smoothed-over standoff between the army and moviemakers.
