If you are currently a sworn police officer and have previously attended a police academy, you may not be required to attend the academy again. That will depend on which academy you attended. This will be confirmed during the background investigation.

The first four services are part of the Department of Defense The services draw their officer corps from ROTC programs at undergraduate institutions and their individual officer preparation undergraduate institutions. College graduates who do not complete ROTC during undergraduate can still apply to become an officer in the services through Officer Candidate School . Can You Be A Police Officer With Depression
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as each persons experience with depression is unique. However, it is possible to be a police officer with depression, as long as the condition is managed in a way that is compatible with the demands of the job. Eight Months Before Separation
Contact the law enforcement agencies that interest you. Fill out an Interest Card or equivalent. Let the recruiters know you will be seeking employment with them. Get the name and number of the personnel with whom you spoke.

Many Police Officers Suffer From Mental Illness
Police officers must be supported in order to succeed, as anxiety and mental illness are common problems in the profession. Military Police And Department Of Defense Police
The several armed forces of the United States employ both civilian Department of Defense police officers and military police forces. DoD officers and military police both perform functions similar to their counterparts in conventional police departments by providing base security, investigating minor crimes and traffic crashes, and enforcing portions of the Uniform Code of Military Justice on military bases.
Military police, as opposed to DoD police, however, are subject to deployment overseas and into battle, and have expanded roles and responsibilities. Each branch of the armed forces has a military law enforcement component. These forces work closely with their branchâs criminal investigative arm. In fact, serving in the military police corps can be an excellent jumping off point to an investigative career with one of the investigative divisions.
Emphasize Related Work Experience
Explaining how your work history has prepared you for police work is very important. Talking about your military service can give you an edge over civilians who are applying. Employers value the skills that veterans bring to the police force such as mental strength, sense of duty and unwavering courage. Other directly related experiences include full-time or volunteer fire fighting, driving an armored car, sleuthing as a private detective or working as a security guard. If you are at least 20 years old, consider volunteering for the police reserves, in which you will receive introductory law enforcement training. Joining the army reserves is an excellent way of acquiring skills and standing-out in the application process.

Potential Disqualifiers For A Policing Career In Canada
When preparing yourself for a policing career, you need to be aware of what will disqualify you from the police application process. As far as the written, physical, and medical exams, the requirements are fairly consistent across all agencies.
Language Disqualifier: You need to be fluent in either English or French including being able to speak, read, and understand one of these languages.

What Hours Will I Have To Work
Patrol Officers work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week year round. Patrol officers work on a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays, and officers are assigned to one of three watches:
- First Watch: 0300-1200 or 0330 – 1230
- Second Watch: 1100-2000 or 1130 – 2030
- Third Watch: 1900-0400 or 1930 – 0430
Officers work 4 days in a row, and then have 2 days off. As a result, our officers work a little more than 40 hours in an average work week. Those extra hours are tracked and then scheduled as additional paid time off throughout the year, similar to paid vacation.
