Always keep a copy of your request so that you can show what you submitted and when.

What Type Of Records Do I Still Not Have Access To
The only records of police misconduct that you can access are those that fall under the three categories listed above: serious uses of force, sexual assault, and dishonesty related to investigations. Records of other types of police misconduct are still secret. Also, while you can access the records of investigation for serious uses of force regardless of whether the agency found that the use of force was wrong, for allegations of sexual assault and job-related dishonesty, you can only access those records if the agency determined that the officer was guilty of misconduct in violation of policy, and the time to appeal that determination has passed.4
In addition, the agency has the right to redact or withhold certain confidential information, like the names of witnesses, or the home address of the officer involved.5

If such a case was to go to a prosecutor, and based on all the information they had they did not believe a crime was committed by you, then they would not file charges against you. However, you should be extra careful because if this type of event becomes a pattern, then someone is going to get in trouble somehow. Best to find a way to keep your distance and relationship smooth.As for your record, there is no criminal record until charges are filed. There is not a criminal conviction until found guilty or from pleading guilty. As for the police, they may keep incident reports or more formal reports. You might want to get a copy of that from the police so that you know what they recorded. The prosecutor has a year to file charges. If you formally complain against your step daughter as others are recommending, you could trigger her to fight back in some manner, whether criminal or civil. Best to do everything in your power to keep the peace and avoid confrontation.

Within five business days of the receipt of a written request for a record reasonably described, we will send you a letter either: making such record available denying such request in writing or furnishing a written acknowledgment of the receipt of such request. How Far Back To Background Checks Go
The law for how far back a background check can look is different in each state. In Texas, for example, the basic rule which answers the question how far does a background check go is that an employer working with a credit reporting agency can only look back seven years on a criminal background check.
