How To Become A Chicago Illinois Police Officer
There are several steps to become a police officer with the Chicago Police Department. The first step is to earn at least 60 college credits from an accredited school and meet the hiring requirements outlined below. Next, candidates must take the departments written exam to be placed on the eligibility list. Candidates who are at least 18 years of age may take the exam to qualify for the hiring process and be placed on the CPD eligibility list, but cannot be hired until they reach the age of 21. Applicants can remain on the eligibility list for up to five years.
Once contacted by the department, those selected for the next stages will undergo medical and physical testing, a background investigation, and police academy training to prepare for police work. The CPD only accepts applications for the written exam during open application periods, which are posted on the Chicago PDs website.
Chicago Police Officer Shot On Near North Side Injuries Not Life
A Chicago police officer was shot in the Goose Island neighborhood Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Paramedics were called to the 1000 block of West North Avenue about 3:30 p.m., Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said. They transported a male officer to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, he said.
The officer had injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening and his condition was stabilized, Langford said.
Yellow tape blocked traffic south of the hospital, and police vehicles surrounded the south entrance along Wellington Avenue near Mildred Avenue.
A person was in custody and a gun was recovered, Police Department spokesman Tom Ahern tweeted.
The shooting took place after police were called to an Ulta Beauty store at 1000 W. North Ave. because someone was acting erratic inside the store, police Superintendent David Brown said at a news conference.
The person and a police officer struggled outside the store, which continued after a second officer arrived, Brown said.
The person fired three shots, hitting an officer once in the face. Brown described the injury as a through-and-through wound.
The second officer arrested the person at the scene, he said.
No officers fired their weapons, Brown said.
Were just grateful that our officer is in non-life-threatening condition at this point, and were asking the public to continue with their prayers for our officer and all the officers for the city of Chicago, Brown said.

CHICAGO Two people are dead and at least 14 others were wounded, including a police officer, in city shootings since Friday night, Chicago police said.
The first fatal shooting happened about 7:45 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of East 92nd Place in the Burnside neighborhood.
Police said a 44-year-old man was near the street when he was approached by two people who pulled out guns and opened fire. He was struck to the abdomen, and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
He was identified as Jason Clark, and lived in the same block where he was shot, according to the Cook County Medical examiners office.
Chicago police Superintendent David Brown held a news conference Saturday evening at the Chicago Police Headquarters to give more details on the 30-year-old female officer who was shot Friday night.
About 10:50 p.m., the officer heard shots fired while she was patrolling near 73rd Street and Jeffery Boulevard, Brown said. On 72nd Place, she and her partner saw a person lying in the street and got out of their car to render aid.
After exiting, the female officer was shot multiple times in the leg, Brown said. She and her partner got back into the car, and she drove herself to a hospital.
Those are astounding numbers and illustrate the dangers our officers face every day, Brown said.

The Minimum Requirements To Becoming A Police Officer
Before applying for a job at the Chicago Police Department, candidates must ensure that they meet the minimum requirements for employability.

Chicago Police Department Recruit Academy
Once applicants have met all of the physical, administrative, and examination requirements, they are placed into the Chicago Police Department Recruit Academy. CHICAGO Twenty-one Chicago police officers have been relieved of powers so far for defying the citys vaccine mandate.
All city workers were required to report if they were vaccinated by Friday those that didnt would be put on a no-pay status, officials repeatedly warned. But the president of Chicagos largest police union suggested officers defy the mandate leading to a flurry of lawsuits late last week and questions over how many officers might be taken off the streets.
As of Tuesday afternoon, just 21 officers have defied the mandate and been put on no-pay status, Supt. David Brown said during a news conference.
We would go against our oath to take this virus into their homes.
The department has not experienced any staffing shortages as a result of the mandate, Brown said.

Illinois State Trooper Requirements
The Illinois State Police is the state highway patrol, which is responsible for upholding motor vehicle laws, responding to emergencies, and illegal drug enforcement, among other duties. Over 2,000 men and women work for the ISP.2
To be a state trooper, you must meet the state requirements and:

Chicago Cop Accidentally Shoots Two Other Police Officers
A Chicago police officer accidentally shot two other officers during a struggle with a suspect, authorities said.
The officers had spotted a car that was wanted in connection with a murder in the 1200 block of South Lake Shore Drive at around 9.15 p.m. on Wednesday, Chicago police Superintendent David Brown said during a media briefing.
The officers and a police helicopter followed the car to a Citgo at 8050 W. Ogden Avenue in Lyons.
Brown said the pursuit was not an “active” one, but described it as “pretty textbook.”
“We actually lost sight of the car for a moment but the helicopter did not,” he said, adding that the helicopter directed the officers to the gas station.
“The offender’s car stopped into the gas station for gas,” Brown said.
Officers surrounded one suspect outside the station and a struggle ensured, he added.
Brown said: “One of our officers who has his handgun out during this struggle has an accidental discharge of his weapon, lightly striking two of our officers.”
The officer fired his weapon once, according to Brown. One of the officers was struck in the arm and the other in the shoulder.
Brown said it was likely that the bullet tore through one officer before hitting the other officer.
The officers who were shot were transported to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, Brown said, and appeared to be in “decent, good condition.”

Chicago Announces Dates For Upcoming Police Officer Entry Exams
Chicago announced Friday that it plans to host in-person police officer entry exams this weekend across several city locations.
The exams will be conducted at all City College of Chicago locations, officials said, with anyone between the ages of 18 and 39 eligible to apply.
“The Department is seeking effective problem-solvers, critical thinkers, and good communicators with the ability to interact with all members of the community and perform the role safely, effectively, and following local, state, and federal law as well as CPD policy and procedures,” CPD said in a release.
The exams come at a challenging time for the city and department amid an ongoing battle over a city employee vaccine mandate, which continues to play out it city courts. Chicago Police Supt. David Brown reported earlier this week that 21 officers had been placed on no-pay status as a result of failure to put their information into the citys vaccination portal. He emphasized, however, that there have been no staffing shortages that have resulted in those officers being temporarily removed from the force.
According to the city, each exam date will feature a morning session and an afternoon session. Morning session doors open at 8 a.m. and close at 8:30 a.m. and afternoon session doors open at 1:30 p.m. and close at 2 p.m.

Lori Lightfoot really doesnt like doing her job as Chicago mayor. Each week, its as if shes trying to see just how many murders can be committed. Crime has increased significantly since shes taken office and yet she doesnt seem to be doing anything about it.
Wait, a police officer has been murdered. The moment the blue is killed, all eyes are on the city. After all, the police are there to serve and protect, even in liberal cities where theyre often regarded as second-rate citizens.
Now that a police officer has been murdered, Lightfoot is ready to do her job. The only problem is that shes doing it wrong.
On Saturday night, Officer Ella French was killed during a traffic stop. She had a partner with her that night who was also shot but they will make a full recovery.
While two people have already been charged with the fatal shooting, its not enough. Something has to be done to stop the murders.
Lori Lightfoot blames the whole thing on guns and is going on an anti-gun binge to try to make the city safer.
Lightfoot has been a fan of underfunding and defunding the police and that means that many criminals have been able to run amok across Chicago. In the two years that shes been serving as mayor, she hasnt accomplished much. Shes managed to be criticized as a racist and shes watched as gun violence has taken over the city.

Chicago Police Department Office Of Professional Standards
In 2002, Lightfoot was appointed chief administrator of the Chicago Police Department Office of Professional Standards, a now-defunct governmental police oversight group, by Police Superintendent Terry Hillard. She held the position for two years. In the position, she was in charge of investigating possible cases of police misconduct, including police shootings of civilians. However, a report found that the Office of Professional Standards’ investigations often lacked thoroughness. Lightfoot says her recommendations for disciplinary action were often rejected by the police department.
In one notable case, Lightfoot went against Police Department orthodoxy by recommending the firing of officer Alvin Weems, who shot and killed an unarmed man, Michael Pleasance. Weems was initially believed to have accidentally shot Pleasance, but after video evidence contradicting the initial claims was revealed, even Weems himself expressed feeling that the shooting was unjustified. Weems was not fired by the Chicago Police Department, but the city was eventually forced to pay a settlement to the Pleasance family. Weems later committed suicide.
