• Theft from a parkade or vehicle parked in a parkade only if no forced entry, otherwise call 403-266-1234.
• Theft of mail including deliveries from postal services such as UPS.

Forgery, Fraud and Identity Theft are investigated by the Financial Crimes Unit of the Bureau of Investigations. The Financial Crimes Unit is located on the third floor of the Police Administration Building located at 201 W. Mission Street, San Jose, CA 277-4521.

Things After Filling The Report:

Be sure to get the FIR filed under Section 154 CRPC and get a hard copy of the police report for your records. The police department may take some time to complete the report, so get your investigating officers business card and contact information so that you can follow up.

If You Are Contacted By A Debt Collector

Tell the debt collector that you are the victim of identity theft. Say that you dispute the validity of the debt. Say that you did not create the debt and are not responsible for it. Send the collector a follow-up letter saying the same things. Include a copy of your police report and of any documents youve received from the creditor. Write in your letter that you are giving notice to a claimant under California Civil Code section 1798.93, subsection that a situation of identity theft exists. Send the letter by certified mail, return receipt requested. If the debt collector is not the original creditor, be sure to send your letter within 30 days of receiving the collectors first written demand for payment.

What Do I Do If I Have Problems Or Am Not Able To Complete An Online Crime Report

Crimes Not In Progress

Depending on where the crime occurred, you may report the crime to agencies such as the MTA police, NY State Police, or Port Authority Police, if the location of the crime falls within their respective jurisdictions. Otherwise, for certain report types, you can file an online police report or you can visit your local precinct.

Where Do Stolen Smartphones Go

With so many protective measures in place to prevent thieves from actually using a phone, you might wonder what happens to these stolen devices. Since locks have been placed on devices and those that have been reported stolen dont work with any in-country cellular providers, the number of smartphone thefts is in decline. Paying For Unauthorised Calls

If someone else runs up a big bill on your phone youll usually have to pay for the cost of the calls up until the time you reported the phone missing.

Some phone networks will only charge you a maximum of £100 if your phone is lost or stolen, as long as you report it within 24 hours. This only applies for monthly contracts – if you have a pay-as-you go contract, you might not get a refund for any credit thats used before you report the loss.

If your network charges you the full amount for the calls made before you reported it, you should ask if they can reduce the bill. Sometimes theyll do this as a gesture of goodwill but they dont have to.

If your network provider tries to charge you for calls made after you reported the phone missing, you should dispute the bill.

If your phone is insured you might be covered for the cost of unauthorised calls made between you losing your phone and reporting it missing. Check with your insurance provider to see if youre covered.
