- Theft from a parkade or vehicle parked in a parkade only if no forced entry, otherwise call 403-266-1234.
- Theft of mail including deliveries from postal services such as UPS.

Filing A Police Report For Harassment
First things firstif you feel like youre in imminent danger, call 911 or your local police station immediately. When a police officer arrives at your home, she or he will ask you questions to verify your claim and collect any proof of the harassing that occurred.
If the harassment youre experiencing doesnt pose an immediate threat but is still taking a severe toll on your mental and physical well-being, you should take action now. Dont hesitate to report the harassing behavior to the police by filing a report at your local police station.
Here is what you need to know in order to file the report, as well as what happens after you have submitted the claim.
Before You File the Report
Before you go to the police, make sure that you have gathered all the evidence of the harassing behavior you were subjected to. This can include:
- Audio or video footage of the harassment
- Printouts of harassing letters, text messages, e-mails, social media messages, and the like
- A list of witnesses
You should ask any witnesses of the harassing conduct if they are willing to be interviewed by the police and confirm that you were harassed. Once you have their approval, create a list of witnesses that contains their full names, home addresses, and phone numbers on which they can be reached. The more material you gather, the likelier it is that the police will take your claim seriously.

When the U.S. Congress passed the Civil Rights Act and its Title VII that banned workplace discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, and sex, a foundation for the first harassment law was laid. For the harassment in the workplace to be illegal, the law dictates that this type of behavior must besevere or pervasive enough to create a work environment that a reasonable person would consider intimidating, hostile, or abusive. If enduring this kind of conduct becomes a condition that the victim keeps their employment, the law also sees this as harassment. In other words, its illegal if the employee/victim complains about the harassment, and the offender or the company threatens to fire them because of it.
Sexual harassment is a type of harassment that involves things like requests for sexual favors or dates, sexual advances, derogatory or vulgar comments about the victims appearance, lewd comments or jokes, etc.
Workplace and sexual harassment can be separate instances of abuse, but an individual can also be subjected to both at the same time. In fact, many victims experience sexual harassment primarily in the workplace, and most of it is quid pro quo harassment. In 2017, the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission received 26,978 claims of workplace harassment, of which a little more than half were about sex-based harassment and a quarter specifically about sexual harassment.

Suppressing The Threat And Risk Of Violence
Filing a police report may help alleviate the threat’s potential to inflict trauma, economic loss and physical injury. If the circumstances of the threat warrant investigation, the police may speak with the person or persons making the threat. Mere contact with authorities is often enough to discourage or put a stop to the threatening behavior.
In addition, the police may be able to give the victim of the threat ideas on how to avoid future threats and confrontations with the same people. Often the mere knowledge that authorities are aware of the situation is enough to convince the person issuing the threats to move on. Equipping yourself with additional information on how best to protect yourself, your family and your property can also serve as a deterrent to future threats or criminal behavior.
What Doesnt Count As Harassment
What is considered harassment will vary not just on the motive of the harasser, but on the effect it had on the victim. Conduct that has caused harm and damage to the other person unintentionally is not legally seen as harassment.
The line between a harsh joke and harassment can be very thin. For instance, someone can say to you, I want to kill you right now, but that in itself doesnt constitute a threat or harassing behavior. You would need to prove the context and that the intent of the person who said it was serious. Even if the other person didnt mean to follow up on their words, their very aim to intimidate you would be enough to classify their words as harassing behavior.
To prove their intention and the effect it had on you, you would have to provide evidence. This could include:
- Proof of similar threats from the same person in the past
- Footage of the incident
- Other relevant proof detailing the particular context when the individual made that remark

How To File A Police Report
Contact your police department if you believe that whats happened to you constitutes a threat. This doesnt necessarily mean calling 911. In most cases, it means calling the regular police department phone number or stopping by the police station in person to talk to an officer on duty. You can explain whats happened and tell the officer that you want to make a report. In some jurisdictions, the police will write and submit the report for you. In others, you can do it yourself. In either case, make sure you keep a copy.
Some larger cities, have special non-emergency numbers where you can submit a report over the phone. And in some jurisdictions, you can go to your countys criminal courthouse to file a complaint there rather than at the police department. Crimes In Progress Or Just Witnessed
If a crime is in progress, or you have just witnessed or experienced a crime, try to get to safety first.

- Be alert of your surroundings and try to make mental notes.
- When talking to the 911 dispatcher, keep in mind the following:
- The first question you will be asked is, “Where is your emergency?”
- Give the dispatcher as specific an address as possible.
- If you don’t know the exact address, try to provide a street name or to identify landmarks around you. It is extremely important to provide as much detail about your location as possible.
All 911 calls can be connected to a translator if foreign language assistance is needed. Do not make prank calls to 911. Prank 911 calls, which take dispatchers away from callers whose lives might be in danger, are punishable by law.

Filing A Police Report Online
This system allows you to submit a report from your computer or mobile device without going to an OPP detachment. All submissions will be sent directly to the OPP and reviewed by an officer. You may be contacted to provide more information. You must have a valid e-mail address in order to submit a report.

Reporting Crime By Phone
If something youre worried about is happening right now call 111. If your matter isnt urgent please call 105.
105 is a national non-emergency number that will be answered 24/7 by Police. The call taker will work to resolve the matter, which might include putting the caller through to their local station for it to be dealt with.
Both 111 for emergencies and 105 for non-emergencies are staffed with highly trained people who are able to help callers with their specific issues.
Any report taken by Police will be analysed to see whether there is sufficient information to pursue. Police will contact you to let you know what action has been taken.

File Police Reports Online
In case you did not know, you can file a police report through our website. The Sheriffs Online Report Tracking System allows you to file a specific type of crime or incident report.
Once your report is reviewed and accepted, you will receive a free copy of the approved report via email for your records. All cases filed within this system will be reviewed.
