Why Are These The Only Crimes Shown

With the Police Reports Map and 9-1-1 Response Map, SPD is making almost all of our reports available online. The Department attempted to be very thoughtful about what information was released and what was not. These decisions were not made to “hide” types of crimes from the public, instead decisions were made about who to protect.

The only reports that are not being released under this system are when the rights of the victim, age of the victim, possibility of revictimization or overall public safety/security issues take clear precedence over the public right to know.

Information on Rape and other sexual offenses, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Kidnapping, Suicides, locations that are sensitive , Homeland Security issues and tactical information that might compromise the safety of our officers are not being released in this system.

If the event is one of the many types we do show, but the location code was entered into the system incorrectly, the location of the event cannot then be verified. In this scenario, this particular event will not appear on the map at all, rather than providing possibly misleading information.

The Accident Information Exchange Form

If police officers have responded to the scene of an accident, you will be given an âAccident Information Exchange Formâ before you see a crash report. Think of the Accident Information Exchange Form as a preliminary accident report. These forms can differ based on the city that the police officer works for. The Phoenix Police Department Accident Information Exchange Form has an incident number listed on the lower left-hand side of the form along with the responding officer information. The form also lists basic information about the accident, including the location of the accident, the names of the drivers involved in the crash, the make, model, license plate numbers of the cars involved, where the vehicles were towed, and whether the accident involved any physical injuries. Keep in mind that officers prepare reports after investigating an accident. The full report may not be available until days or weeks after an accident. In addition, supplements may be issued for certain reports.

Police Report Vs Police Record

First, lets clarify something that is bound to cause some confusion: the difference between a police report and a police record. While these two items have similar names, they are in fact very different. A police report is a document filed by a police officer that essentially offers a summary of an arrest, incident, or accident. A police record, on the other hand, is usually the same as a criminal record and it includes a list and summary of an individuals history of interactions with law enforcement, including arrests and convictions.

Another point that deserves clarification is the difference between a police report and an accident report. In fact, theres not really a difference between these two items. An accident report is simply a type of police report that details the circumstances of a traffic accident. A police report, meanwhile, can include accident reports, but they cover a much broader range of incidents that may involve the police, including crimes. Note that some police departments call police reports incident reports. Remember that some accident reports may also be criminal reports, such as if the accident may have been caused by drunk driving.

Why Do I Need To Get A Copy Of My Accident Report

After a motor vehicle collision, its common for an accident victim to file a claim for compensation with the negligent drivers insurance company. However, an insurance company is never on the accident victims side. An insurance company is a business. Obtaining the compensation you deserve after an auto accident to cover the cost of medical expenses, vehicle damage, and lost wages from work can be challenging, especially if youre injured and looking at a long recovery. Obtaining a copy of your collision report can tip the odds in your favor, especially if the responding police officer documented that they believe the other driver was responsible for the accident.

Paradise Valley police reports can help strengthen insurance claims for compensation, but obtaining a copy can be a challenge, especially for accident victims who sustained catastrophic injuries. While filing a claim for compensation may be the last thing on your mind after a serious collision, you must file an insurance claim as soon as possible to ensure you receive the compensation you deserve. A crash report can be used as valuable evidence in an insurance claim, which is why you must obtain your copy as soon as possible.

Most law enforcement agencies will require accident victims to pick up a copy of their crash report in person, or mail in a request and wait several weeks for the report to arrive in the mail.

    What’s In A Criminal Record

Let’s break it down, an individual’s criminal record can consist of the following things:

    • Conviction Records

Keep in mind that some of these reports can be considered null and void if the criminal charges were dropped or if a person was found innocent of the crime. This will likely depend upon the jurisdiction. A criminal record will also have a list of crimes that a person was convicted of and the sentence. These include jail or prison terms served, time of probation served, parole grants, and even violation of probation or parole. A criminal record will also show any warrants for a person.

  • You can check your local courts website if you know the location or original county of the arrest.
  • Go to the local courts website.
  • Type the name of the person if the court website has a search feature.
  • It is important to know as much information about the person you are searching for an outstanding warrant so that they can be properly identified in the public records when dealing with a specific court.
  • If you cant find this information, then a phone call to the local court directly will be necessary.
  • Ask the court clerk if there is an outstanding warrant for the individual.
  • Again, have as much information as possible about the individual, such as the individuals birth date and any relevant case numbers or arrest records.
  • If you do not have all this information or find the court difficult to work with you can easily use SpyFlys Outstanding Warrant Search tool. What To Do After You Get Your Police Report

Once you have a copy of the police report, it is important that you review it to ensure that all of the information is correct and that there are no errors or omissions of information on this report. Many times, the responding officer that created the report may leave off vital information that is stored elsewhere simply as an oversight or because they have too many things going on at once. This does not mean that this information is unavailable. You should be able to reach out to the responding officer and get the information you need to fill in the blanks on your police report.

When you are reviewing your police report looking through the list of citations given to the driver at fault for your collision can help provide you with additional perspective. This type of information cannot be used when seeking recompense, especially in a court of law, but it can help you understand what happened and what the other driver may have done wrong that resulted in your accident and injuries.

If your vehicle was taken from the scene of the accident by tow truck, you may need to have a copy of your police report handy to retrieve your vehicle. This is even more critical in cases where family members are collecting vehicles on behalf of a seriously injured victim. In this case, you will also need power of attorney over your loved one in order to make decisions on their behalf or talk about their accident or case with any involved parties.
