Residents can provide multiple points of contacts, multiple addresses for alerts, and set language preferences by registering for the alert systems offered by the City of Los Angeles.

National Blue Alert Network

The National Blue Alert Network supports the use and integration of Blue Alert plans throughout the United States in order to rapidly disseminate information to law enforcement agencies, the media and the public to aid in the apprehension of violent criminals who have killed, or seriously injured an officer in the line of duty. Blue Alerts can also be issued when a suspect poses an imminent and credible threat to law enforcement, or when an officer is missing in the line of duty.

Congress passed the Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu National Blue Alert Act of 2015 in order to encourage, enhance, and integrate Blue Alert plans.

The law is named in honor of New York City Police Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu who were killed in an ambush attack on December 20, 2014.

Blue Alerts can be transmitted to television and radio stations to cellphones and wireless devices, to overhead highway message signs, and other secondary alerting mechanisms in the same way that AMBER Alerts are commonly issued.

There are currently 37 states with Blue Alert plans. The COPS Office provides resources and technical assistance to states, territories, law enforcement agencies, and tribes seeking to establish or enhance Blue Alert plans including, voluntary activation guidelines, examples of legislation, policies, and forms gathered from around the nation in a central Blue Alert data repository.

Roxeth

You may have received an SMS message from number +61 444 444 444 with details about a missing person.

These SMS messages are not a scam and are official text messages from the NSW Police Force as part of the new geo-targeting alert system.

Why am I being sent this message?

The +61 444 444 444 messages are sent out to people within the area of a high-risk missing persons last known location in the hopes you may be able to provide police with real-time information to ensure the missing person is located safely.

You will receive a message if you have been within 5km or 20km of a missing persons last reported location.

The text message will include the name and a physical description of the missing person, where they were last seen and how to report a sighting.

How did you get my number?

The NSW Police Force and NSW government works with mobile providers such as Telstra, Optus and TPG under the Emergency Alert Framework.

The Emergency Alert is a national telephone warning system that allows emergency services to send out alerts in emergency events. The system has already been in place for several years and is used during other emergency situations like bushfires, floods and other extreme weather conditions.

The +61 444 444 444 alert is only used in high-risk circumstances, with an assessment of all available information to be undertaken by police before a geo-targeted SMS message is sent.

West Yorkshire Community Alert

West Yorkshire Police has launched a new and updated version of the messenger system “West Yorkshire Community Alert“.

Community Alert, is a system West Yorkshire Police has been using since 2019, allowing officers across the county to update the public direct with news, updates and appeals on matters that are happening on their doorstep.

This new Community Alert has also been updated to include a range of new benefits, such as the ability for officers to send hyper-localised messages to the public by drawing round a particular area or postcode.

West Yorkshire Police Crime Prevention Officer Paul Denison said:

“Community Alert is a fantastic service as it gives the public a simple way of keeping up to date with what we’re up to in their local area, especially those who may not have social media.

“It is also an invaluable investigative tool – and can be used to appeal for information or intelligence and help to solve crime.

“It’s a great service we can provide to the public as users are able to engage with us and receive real-time updates on issues that are affecting where they live, and they can also choose what updates they’d like to receive on things that matter to them.”

Public registration is free and people can choose to receive news and appeals, local crime information and/or prevention advice direct via email, text or voice message.

    Registering Versus Downloading The App

    • The advantage of registering is to have emergency notifications connected to your home address, and if you desire, up to four additional addresses. In other words, if you are away from your home, you will still be notified if something is occurring in your neighborhood. And if you have included your work address or the address of a family member, you will be notified if something is occurring in those areas. In addition, if you prefer to receive an alert in another language, this can only be done when you register.
    • The advantage of the CodeRED mobile application is its geo-locating abilities. In other words, if you turn the GPS feature ON for your smartphone and an alert is sent out where you are physically located, the CodeRED system will geo-locate your phone and you will be included in the notification. In addition, if you travel in an area that uses CodeRED and there is a emergency notification sent out in that area, your phone will be geo-located and included in the notification.

Fatal Shooting Reported In Latah/hangman Area Police Searching For Suspect

Search continues for Mount Vernon boy

The scene of a fatal shooting near the intersection of Hartson Avenue and A Street is shown Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022.

One person was killed in a shooting in the Latah/Hangman neighborhood of Spokane on Thursday, and a male suspect was still on the loose, Spokane police said.

Officers responded at 2:30 p.m. at a residence on the 2300 block of West 16th Avenue where they located a dead person. Police were actively searching for a man in the area as of 7 p.m., Spokane Police Department spokeswoman Julie Humphreys said.

Police quickly learned that the man had fled from the residence after the shooting, according to a department release.

Police identified the suspect as Mitchell Chandler, 33. He is 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 172 pounds.

The department advised people to stay away from the scene, which extends to Government Way and Sunset Highway.

Squad cars blocked off Lindeke Street heading northbound near the Fish Lake Trailhead and cordoned off roads near High Bridge Park.

A large presence of Spokane law enforcement and first responders had staged the search operations in the parking lot of Restoration Church, 2815 W. Sunset Blvd. Drones were seen deploying from the parking lot as night fell.

Humphreys said police were searching the area of Peaceful Valley and High Bridge Park.

There was no shelter-in-place order as of Thursday night, but Humphreys advised residents to be cautious in the area.
