The Ring app will send you push notifications to help you self-monitor your system. You can access your cameras live feed, use the two-way talk feature on the cameras and smart doorbell, and receive motion alerts without paying subscription fees.
With Ring, you can also access the Neighbors community in the same smartphone app as your home security system. In the Neighbors community, you can see what your neighbors have noticed or caught on camera and hear from police about whats going on.
While anyone can use the Neighbors App , having it in the same spot as your security system cuts down the app clutter.

Does Ring Work Without Wi
It depends on the Ring product.
- Ring video doorbells still work as normal doorbells if you hardwire them to your existing doorbell or have a Ring Chime accessory. You cant watch video, get notifications, or talk to visitors without Wi-Fi.
- Ring Alarm security systems function normally as long as you have a Ring Protect Plus subscription, which comes with a cellular backup in case your Wi-Fi goes down.
- Ring Smart Lights still activate when they detect motion, but you cant control them or get push notifications without a Wi-Fi connection.
- Ring security cameras do not work without Wi-Fi.

How Does It Work
When you purchase the Ring alarm system, youll have a base station and keypad as standard, along with 1-3 window/door sensors and also 1-3 motion sensors .
The window/door sensors are like magnetic switches: they are a pair and go on either side of a window or door. If the window or door is opened when everyone is out, the alarm system will detect this as a possible break-in. If no-one deactivates the alarm via the keypad , the siren inside the keypad sounds and Ring will also get notified, if you pay for the Ring Protect Plus plan.
The same is true for the motion sensors these are PIR based , and when motion is detected unexpectedly, the alarm system must either be deactivated or the siren will sound and Ring will be notified.
When the alarm trips, a Ring team based in a secure location will check the alarm notification and firstly try to ring you to see if the threat is genuine. In other words, is it possible that you forgot the keypad code and the alarm system is ringing because you couldnt deactivate it? You can cancel the alarm from ringing by giving Ring a verbal password which you previously setup.
But if you say that youre out and no-one should be home, or if Ring simply cant get hold of you, they will then contact local law enforcement to attend your house.

Connecting Dome Siren To Ring
Dome siren comes with Z wave certification, which means itcan connect and work with all Z wave certified devices. Therefore, it canconnect with your Ring App.
Before connecting your dome to Ring App, update the App andalso tell the people using the shared feature to update the App.
It is very simple to connect dome siren to ring. Open the side menu on the App and click on set up a device. Select security devices and click on siren > > Dome Siren and then click on Ready. Your device is now ready to connect to Dome Siren.
Now open the back cover of the Dome Siren and then click on the Next on the App screen. Turn on the siren by removing the battery tabs. You just have to tap on the Add button and the base station will find the Dome siren automatically.
Tap on the Done button to finish the device configuration settings.
However, if you want to change the Dome Siren name or sirensound for different rooms, go to device profile settings and change as per yourneed.
Once your Dome siren is set up, you can place it anywhere in your room. The dome siren comes at $30 excluding your Ring Alarm kit, but it is a good choice with 3 different volume settings and 11 different chimes to get alerts.
If you are away from home and your siren goes off, you would definitely get a call from the local police department and even they can go for checking out your house.

Downsides Of Using Ring
There are a few downsides to using the Ring Alarm system.
Just like any alarm system,, you may trigger a false alarm as a new user. This could lead to a fine from police if you dont promptly respond to Rings calls. You must be careful moving around when the system is active. You cant just run outside when the Ring is armed in Home mode. In the event of a false alarm, you may get calls from Ring even when everything is fine.
For a sophisticated monitoring system, it doesnt provide facial recognition technology. I see some people use this with other video doorbells since the technology allows you to identify visiting friends and family.
However, Ring has taken a stance against facial recognition, which I respect. Its a matter of privacy, although Ring doesnt explain their viewpoint. If you want to view the page where Ring states their viewpoint on the topic, you can .
Ring is very reliable, but as with any alarm system, you cant rely 100% on Ring working 24/7. You still need to remain vigilant. Theres no fool-proof security system. Sometimes, you may need to call 911 yourself. The alarm system is there to help.
Flood And Freeze Alarm Response Plan
How is the Flood or Freeze alarm triggered?It can be triggered when the Ring Alarm Flood & Freeze sensor* detects water or freezing temperatures when Ring Alarm is Armed Home, Away, or Disarmed.
Flood and Freeze Response Plan: There is no dispatch available for this sensor. If water or freezing temperature is detected, there are a variety of alerts and automated calls that you can optionally toggle on or off.
Canceling Flood and Freeze alerts: All notifications can be canceled within the app. There is no dispatch option.

The City does not refund license fees to alarm-monitoring companies when subscribers cancel their service. Individual alarm companies may have their own policies regarding refunds. The City is allowing subscribers to switch monitoring companies without charging the new monitoring company for a license fee that was paid within the calendar year by the previous monitoring company. Be prepared to provide your new company with the documentation of prior payment.
Is Ring Connected To Police
Ring Alarm is not directly connected to the police. The security system works like a traditional alarm system by monitoring your house for certain situations detected by the sensors. If a break-in happens, the Ring Alarm will notify the Ring Monitoring Center, and they will call the police for you if the proper conditions are met.
The Ring security system has three basic modes:
- Disarmed: When youre home and want to walk in and out without triggering the alarms.
- Home: When youre inside the house and want to walk freely, only sensors that detect entry and exit are activated.
- Away: Complete system activation outside and inside the house.
You can set up the alarm to go off within 0-180 seconds of motion detection. In case of a break-in, fire, CO2 leak, or flooding, your Ring app will send you a notification. You can also install a Panic Buttons inside the house to trigger an alarm quickly. The type of alarm triggered can be set using the Ring app.
As far as the monitoring options are concerned, the free plan, included just by using Ring, provides you with Live View and motion-activate notifications, which helps you monitor your house. In this plan, you cant record videos or have Ring monitoring notify the police. You have to take care of things yourself..
Ring does have a basic plan, but it does not include the monitoring service. Its main feature is adding video history.

Many wired Ring doorbell models also have a battery that allows them to work when the powers out:

With both options, voicemail messages will be left for all emergency contacts who do not answer the phone.

How Big Is The Alarm Epidemic
Every year, the Portland Police Bureau responds to thousands of false alarms within our community. Last year we responded to thousands of false alarms, tying up valuable resources.
Major causes of false alarms
- Door / window not properly closed
- Kids, neighbors, relatives, visitors, repair workers
- Cleaning crews
- Equipment malfunction
- Accidental activation by property owner
As the alarm user, it is your responsibility to make sure your equipment is in working order, and to ensure that all staff and individuals who have access to your alarm system are properly trained on how to use it. This can be as simple as performing routine maintenance on your equipment, keeping motion sensors clear, and checking the alarm system battery to avoid system malfunctions.
The Security System Reporting Process
Many monitored home security systems include a police response feature. Your home security system wont directly contact the police any time a sensor triggers. The process is a bit more complex than that.
First, the triggered sensor will alert your alarm control panel. Usually, the control panel will wait between thirty and sixty seconds before sending a notification to the alarm company, giving you time to disarm the system if you accidentally tripped it.
When the monitoring center receives an alert, an operator will respond based on the companys protocol. Some companies will first contact the residence to confirm theres an emergency and check if any other sensors were triggered. If the monitoring representative cant connect with the home, they will then notify the police department. Other companies dont wait to contact the authoritiesrepresentatives will simultaneously alert the residence and the police.
From there, a police officer will check on the property. Depending on the departments protocols, alarm circumstances, and call volume, the dispatched unit may drive by or investigate your home and property to address the reason for the alarm.
