Identify A Hotspot Of Crime
Density Maps or âHotspotsâ are a huge source of fascination for the public and law enforcement. The attraction is obviousâa picture is worth a thousand wordsâhowever, the science behind actually identifying a hotspot varies widely from user to user. Analysts are always looking for clusters, groups, and hotspots. Indeed, trying to use a set of pointsâsuch as crime eventsâto define an area such as a hotspot, hunting ground, activity space, etc., is an important activity for any mapper. After all, the police need to narrow their search, prioritize their deployments, or focus on an area when at all possible.
Density is calculated by counting up the number of events within a selected range of each cell cells with a higher count of nearby events have a higher density than cells with a lower count. This range, known as the Search Radius, must be chosen carefully. If the Search Radius is short, there may not be any cells which are in range of more than one or two events. On the other hand, if the radius is too large, every cell might be in range of every event, therefore giving a meaningless result. Search Radius selection is the most critical part of performing density analysis. RAIDS has a proprietary algorithm that determines a suitable search distance at any zoom level in hopes of providing you hotspots at any level.
How Police Scanners Work
If you know one or two things about how AM/FM radio stations work, then you already know how scanning devices work as well. AM/FM sends broadcasts via radio waves, and so do cellphones, CB radio, and television.
A radio scanner allows you to communicate with UHF and VHF range. This range allows users to listen to conversations between sanitation workers, emergency workers, and even others within your community. If youre not familiar with the police codes on scanners, check out this page.

Ecg Illuminates Kpovi Police Barrier To Enhance Security
The Electricity Company of Ghana has provided the Kpovi Police barrier in the Ho West District with power, after 42 years of establishing the post.
The initiative is expected to enhance security at the first police checkpoint in the Volta Region on the Accra-Ho highway, stationed on disputed land.
The project, estimated to cost about GH¢ 101,024.26, saw the provision of a 50KVA transformer, poles, overhead Cables, single-phase meter, installation of streetlights, and minor renovation works done on the duty post at Kporvi.
The Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Oduro-Kwateng, said that the Kpovi barrier was mounted in 1979, during a conflict between the people of Peki and Tsito over ownership of the land, to serve as a buffer between the feuding factions and to respond swiftly to emergencies.
He said the barrier has played crucial roles in combating crime in the region.
Since its establishment, it has been very useful in many ways including the arrest of robbery suspects and other wanted persons, interception of arms, ammunition, narcotic drugs and stolen goods coming in and out of the region, rescue of human trafficking victims among others.
Recently our men on duty at this barrier on 10th August, 2021 intercepted vehicle No. GC 3690 09 loaded with almost 1,300 parcels of substance suspected to be narcotics. The case is being handled by the National Narcotics Control board in Accra, he revealed.

The Electricity Company Of Ghana Has Commissioned A Power Supply Project For The Kporvi Police Checkpoint In The Ho West District In The Volta Region To Improve Security On The Accra
The GH¢101,024.26 power extension project, as part of the companys corporate social responsibility towards its stakeholders, includes a 50 KVA transformer, poles, overhead cables, a single phase metre, installation of streetlights and minor renovation works of the duty post at Kporvi.
The project will connect the barrier to the national grid to bring relief to security personnel who man the barrier and scores of commuters who ply that route by providing reliable power supply to illuminate the Kporvi enclave.
The Kporvi barrier, sited along the main Ho-Accra highway, has served as a major checkpoint for the Ghana Police Service for over 42 years and has been instrumental in the arrest of robbery suspects and other wanted persons the interception of arms, ammunition, narcotic drugs and stolen goods coming in and out of the region and in the rescue of human trafficking victims, among others.
The barrier has, however, been difficult to man at night due to the unavailability of power since its inception.
This posed a major security threat for not only personnel of the service, but commuters who plied that route.
At a brief ceremony last Friday to commission the project, the Volta/Oti Regional Manager of ECG, Mr Emmanuel Lumor, indicated that the police ensured the safety of citizens at all times and as such there was the need for citizens to replicate their efforts by looking out for their welfare with the same level of interest.

Using As A Police Scanner
I really enjoy this app! Have not delved beyond the police scanner yet, as that was main reason to use it. It works exactly as you would want for that. So many options! I live in a large city in CO and rest of my family live back in MI. This lets me not only know what is happening here in this huge city around me, but I can keep an ear out on my adult kids toInteresting how you learn that when police departments complain how underfunded they are, or under staffed, by hearing that on any given weekend, in any district, only 3-4 cars are on the late night shift, and complaint calls hold for over 24 hrs….you can understand the frustration from not only the people in the city, but very much so by the police who have to answer those insanely late response times! Last weekend Friday night, 2am, 4 different calls were held involving guns and knives simply because there was no one to respond! Yup. Sorry for the long story, but this app has actual learning value to it. 109% recommendation

Learn When Crimes Occur
Imagine the topology as being like a map, except instead of terrain, it maps time. The X-Coordinate indicates the hour of the day, while the Y-Coordinate indicates the day of the week. The Z-Coordinate is represented by the volume of activity at that hour and day.
Temporal topologies identify the level of crime activity at a particular day and hour.
You read the temporal topology just as you would read the density map in RAIDS. Look for areas of high activity across the 168 hour week. Police agencies use the temporal topology to understand when activity happens, when to deploy resources, and when to staff officers. Temporal topologies, using vivid colors and shapes to draw the readerâs attention to significant findings, can be much clearer and easier to interpret than reading through countless rows of mind-numbing cross tabulated data
