Thats former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani offering his perspective to Fox News on rising concerns that police disproportionately kill black Americans.
The unarmed shootings which are the ones that are the troublesome ones there are only 9 of them against blacks 20 against whites in 2019. So thatll give you a sense. Meanwhile, there were 9,000 murders of blacks, 7,500 of which were black-on-black, Giuliani told Foxs Ed Henry during a recent interview.

The comments come as President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order calling on police departments to adopt stricter use-of-force standards and create a database to track officer misconduct amid an eruption of social unrest in America over racial inequality and the treatment of blacks by law enforcement after a number of recent incidents.
Protests across the globe have been ignited by the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old African-American man who perished in police custody on May 25 in Minneapolis as a white police officer drove his knee into his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.
Giuliani, however, described the reaction to the incidences and calls to defund the police as created and almost hysterical.

Law Enforcement is a noble career in which men and women in uniform go out into our communities each and every day to ensure the safety of our families, our friends, and our communities. Police officers across America get up each morning ready to serve so that we may feel more secure. It is a rewarding job. It is a risky one. And in 2020, it was more dangerous than it had been in years.
How Often Are Police Shot In The Line Of Duty
In a study published in Criminology & Public Policy on July 20, Nix and Sierra-Arévalo analyzed fatal and non-fatal shootings of police officers between 2014 and 2019. The analysis relies on data from the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit that tracks shootings through media and police reports. During the study period, 1,467 local and state law enforcement officers were shot in 1,185 incidents, 249 of which were fatal. That works out to, on average, 245 officers shot per year, 42 of them fatally. The study excludes federal officers, corrections officers, and shootings of officers by colleagues.
Nix and Sierra-Arévalo observed a spike in firearm assaults against officers in 2016, but did not find a sustained increase over the six-year period of their survey.
According to other research, policing has actually become a much safer profession over the last five decades. A study published last year in Criminology & Public Policy found that line-of-duty deaths fell 75 percent between 1970 and 2016, according to an analysis of FBI data.

Though still near historic lows, violent crime has been rising in the U.S. since 2016. So far this year, murders are up 22 percent across three dozen cities. The increase in violence has created a particularly tense moment: Black and Brown communities say theyre under attack by the police, and form the backbone of protests against police brutality, while the police say their job is exceptionally dangerous, especially amid calls to defund law enforcement.
Theres no disputing that police work remains risky, as a recent case in McAllen, Texas, shows: On July 11, two officers were fatally shot during a domestic assault call. But the war on cops that some news reports and police advocates describe isnt backed up by evidence.
A new study from criminologists Justin Nix from the University of Nebraska Omaha and Michael Sierra-Arévalo from the University of Texas at Austin adds more data to the debate, while rejecting the notion that the profession has become increasingly unsafe.

To Protect And Serve Requires A Vaccine
And yet, sadly, officers have been hesitant, and it has led to their preventable, premature deaths and no telling how many other deaths of those they encountered on the job.
The chronologically listed deaths of the officers tell the story.
In January, a month when COVID-19 vaccinations were just becoming available, 54 law-enforcement officers died in the line of duty, with 38 of those deaths due to COVID.
These officers likely died from COVID before they could get the vaccine that would save their lives. Same thing goes with some of the 20 officers who died from COVID in February.
But from March to June, the life-saving effects of the vaccine were becoming apparent in the officer mortality rates. For the first time this year, officers were more likely to die for some other reason than a COVID illness during those four months.
COVID killed a steady six officers per month, accounting for three out of every 10 officer deaths.
Then the more deadly, and easier-spread delta variant of the virus took hold. By July, COVID was the predominant killer of law-enforcement officers again.
And in August and September, it became rare for officers to die of anything else but COVID-19.
The deadliest month of this year, August, had 64 COVID deaths, compared to 13 from all other causes. Septembers COVID deaths were 62 out of the 70 total law-enforcement officer deaths.

Robin Dudding was shot dead in Rotorua after he was taken hostage at Lake Rotoiti by Ross Kameta, 18, who fired shots at police. Kameta wanted to be taken to the Rotorua Police Station, but was instead driven away from the city by Traffic Officer Dudding.
Armed police located Traffic Officer Dudding’s patrol vehicle near Hamurana. After disabling Kameta, they located Dudding’s body in the vehicle.
Kameta was charged with the murder of Dudding and attempted murder of another police officer. He was found not guilty due to insanity and detained in a mental institution.
For his bravery in preventing the gunman from carrying out his murderous intentions, Traffic Officer Dudding was posthumously awarded the George Medal.

Police Officer And Another Person Were Killed In Denver
The largest share of that rise is due to traffic-related fatalities. There have already been 36 officers killed in traffic, compared with 25 at this point last year a rise of 44%.
Traffic-related deaths include collisions with other vehicles, single-vehicle crashes, motorcycle crashes and incidents in which officers are struck by vehicles.
An increase in traffic deaths has been seen in the general public as well: U.S. traffic deaths rose 7% last year, even as fewer people drove to work during the pandemic.
Deadliest Year For Police
2020 was the year of George Floyd, massive civil unrest, and anti-police sentiment stoked by radical activists, politicians, and the media. But worst of all, 2020 was the year of the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic emergency. While organizations who track line of duty deaths each year have come up with different figures, 2020 was the deadliest year for Police in many years by far. And Covid-19 is largely to blame.
According to a report issued by the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, as of December 31, 2020, 264 federal, state, military, tribal, and local law enforcement officers died in the line-of-duty in 2020. This represents an increase of 96% over the 135 officers killed in the line of duty the year before. Of these tragic deaths, the organization links Covid-19 as the confirmed cause of death in 145 cases.
The Officer Down Memorial Page tracks similar numbers, but in their accounting 2020 resulted in even more Covid-19 related deaths than the numbers tracked by the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. According to the Officer Down count, 343 officers died in the line of duty in 2020, and 222 of them died of Covid-19.
However, it is important to note that this reduction in gun related police deaths do not tell the entire story. On December 30th, the National Fraternal Order of Police posted disturbing statistics on the dramatic rise of Police Officers shot and injured in the line of duty, with 311 officers shot overall in 2020 alone.

Traffic Poses The Biggest Threat To Officers
Car crashes and other traffic-related incidents pose the biggest threat to police officers, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the memorial fund.
More than 800 officers died as a result of these incidents from 2006 to 2019. That’s 43% of all line-of-duty deaths.
The CDC says behavior-related hazards put officers at particular risk for traffic-related injuries or death on the job. These include not wearing a seat belt, speeding, being distracted while on a device while driving or experiencing tunnel vision from increased stress.

Assaults on police officers has risen by a third in just four years following the spike in violent crime across the UK in 2018-19, statistics have suggested.
While knife crime offences have hit a record high, up by 8% on the previous year in England and Wales, police officers are increasingly becoming the target of violence.
On Thursday evening, PC Andrew Harper was killed while responding to a reported burglary in Berkshire. Thames Valley Police said a 13-year-old boy was among 10 people being held in custody at different police stations across the region.
Earlier this month, PC Stuart Outten was stabbed in the head with a machete during a vicious attack in Leyton, east London, while trying to perform a routine vehicle stop. He is still recovering in hospital from his serious injuries.
The recent violence on police officers comes as statistics this week revealed a rise in police assaults, with approximately 28 attacks a day on officers as a crime epidemic sweeps the UK.
Officers were victims of 10,399 alleged assaults that caused injuries last year, which is up 32% from 7,903 recorded in 2015-16, according to the Office for National Statistics .
There were a further 20,578 reported assaults on front line officers who were not injured in the attacks.

How Do Officer Shootings Affect The Mindset Of Police
In an interview, the studys authors pointed to a few factors that play a role in how officers think about the risk of being shot: the militarization of police training, a police culture that amplifies tales of downed officers, and the proliferation of guns among civilians.
What my ethnographic work shows is that police are systematically socialized to understand their work as predominantly dangerous, and to understand that the public is the key driver of that danger, said Sierra-Arévalo. So police are trained that there actually is no such thing as a routine traffic stop, there is no such thing as a routine call for service. Instead, they are trained to view the world as full of infinite threats, and to approach a situation as if it might devolve into a fight of their lives at any moment.
This warrior culture has existed in law enforcement circles for decades but has intensified in recent years, as The Traces Alain Stephens reported in June.
The proliferation of guns also exacerbates a sense of danger. I dont think theres really any serious argument to be made that the supply of firearms doesnt influence the level of violent police encounters, Sierra-Arévalo added.
Why 1930 Was The Deadliest Year
2020 saw the most law enforcement deaths since 1930. That year, 312 officers were killed.
The FBI ties much of that to the rise of gangs following the passage of Prohibition in the U.S. in 1920. Law enforcement agencies were “outgunned” and ill-prepared to take on massive gang operations across the country and the rise of the New York Mafia, according to the agency.
“By the early 1930s, cities like St. Paul, Minnesota, had become virtual training grounds for young crooks, while Hot Springs, Arkansas, had turned into a safe haven and even a vacation spot for the criminal underworld,” the FBI said. “More often than not, local police forces were hobbled by the lack of modern tools and training.”

Police Deaths: The Officers Killed In The Line Of Duty
The deaths of Fiona Bone, 32, and Nicola Hughes, 23, during a routine operation in Tameside, Greater Manchester, are the latest in a long list of UK police fatalities.
It is the first such incident to involve two female officers.
Speaking about their deaths, Greater Manchester Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy said: “Day in, day out, police officers go about their duty, go into dangerous situations, unexpected situations, and show great bravery, great courage and are with people at the very worst moments in their lives.
“This is exactly what these two officers were doing.”
According to the National Memorial Day organisation, more than 4,000 police officers have been killed in the line of duty since 1792, when the first salaried constables went on duty.
The organisation said 256, including PC Bone and PC Hughes, have been shot since 1945.
Joe Holness, who founded the organisation, said the figures rose each year by an average of between 10 and 15 officers.
The charity, Police Roll of Honour Trust, has named every UK officer who has been killed in the line of duty.
They include PC Sharon Beshenivsky who was shot dead during a bungled robbery in Morley Street, Bradford, on 18 November 2005.
Two men were jailed for life for her murder. She had been responding to an armed robbery call with fellow PC Teresa Milburn.
PC Beshenivsky had been a police officer for just nine months and became the first female officer in 20 years to be shot dead by a criminal in England and Wales.

Thousands of police officers in Britain are believed to have died during the course of their duties, but this article includes only those who were killed as a direct result of a crime or while attempting to prevent, stop or solve a specific criminal act. In One Year 57375 Years Of Life Were Lost To Police Violence
A new study finds that police killings exact a toll greater than accidental gun deaths.
People killed by police in 2015 and 2016 had a median age of 35, and they still had an average of about 50 years left to live when they died. Its this metricthe gap between how long someone lives and how long they were expected to livethats the focus of a new study by Anthony Bui, Matthew Coates, and Ellicott Matthay in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.
To find the true toll of police violence, the authors focused on years of life lost. They used data from The Counted, a Guardian database of people killed by police, to find the races and ages of everyone who died at the hands of police in the United States, then compared them to the average life expectancy for those groups.
Of the 1,146 and 1,092 victims of police violence in 2015 and 2016, respectively, the authors found that 52 percent were white, 26 percent were black, and 17 percent were Hispanic. Together, these individuals lost 57,375 years to police violence in 2015 and 54,754 to police violence in 2016. Young people and people of color were disproportionately affected: 52 percent of all the years of life lost belonged to nonwhite, non-Hispanic ethnic groups. Whites also tended to be killed by police at older ages than African Americans and Hispanicsthough this is partly because, in the general population, whites are older on average than the other groups.
