Cop Impersonator Arrested After Pulling Over Ky Officer
When the LEO said he worked for Louisville police, the impersonator said he wouldn’t write him a ticket and left the scene

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Officials say a Kentucky man pretending to be a police officer is facing charges after pulling over a real officer.
News outlets cited an arrest warrant in reporting that a Louisville police officer was driving his personal vehicle when 24-year-old Brandon Hurley began driving toward him Saturday with flashing lights and a honking horn.
The warrant says the officer pulled over and Hurley asked him if he knew how fast he was going.
When the officer identified himself as working for the Louisville police force, Hurley said he wouldn’t write him a ticket and left the scene.
Police said the officer got Hurley’s license plate number and he was arrested Tuesday on charges of impersonating a peace officer and wanton endangerment.
Jail records don’t indicate whether he has an attorney.
Lmpd Lowers Requirements To Become Police Officer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. Louisville Metro Police will soon lower its requirements to become an officer with the department.
Police Chief Steve Conrad told a committee of Louisville Metro Council members on Monday night about two changes he plans to implement over the summer to try and increase the hiring pool for officers.
According to LMPD officials, two years ago around 1,700 people applied to the department, but last year only 1,000 people applied.
We felt like we needed to do something to increase the number of people who are at least applying to the police department, Conrad said.
The first change Conrad says will be implemented this summer is lowering the required two years of college education. The requirement has been in place since the city and county merged back in 2003.
I think at the time when they decided to raise it to 60 credit hours it was probably well intended but had some unintended effects, said Metro Councilman and former police officer David James .
The department will now only require a high school diploma to be considered for an officer position.
I am looking for people who maybe have more life experiences, Conrad said. Maybe they were in a financial situation that didn’t allow them to go to college. We can teach them what they need to be good, qualified police officers.
Conrad says that change will be put into place as a pilot program over the next two years while the effects, if any, are studied.
Louisville Police Officer Requirements
To become a sworn law enforcement officer with the LMPD, candidates must first meet the departments minimum requirements and then proceed through the application steps. In order to apply, a candidate must:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Be a US citizen
- Have a high school diploma or a GED
- Have not used, possessed, bought or sold marijuana within three years, or any other controlled substance or narcotic within six years, of the date of application
- Have fewer than nine points on their license for traffic violations
- Have no felony convictions
Hopeful recruits who are qualified to work for the LMPD may fill out an online application to get started. Recruits must then take the physical agility test and the written exam. The written exam includes situational questions based on police work as well as an evaluation of reading comprehension, reasoning ability, and communication skills. Those who pass may be selected to be interviewed by a panel. Candidates selected then undergo a background investigation, polygraph examination, and medical and psychological examinations before being offered conditional employment and being sent to the Louisville Metro Police Training Academy.

Young Marine Who Drowned In Kentucky Lake Planned To Become Police Officer
It was a two-week leave from Camp Pendleton that brought the young Marine home to Hardin County.
“He was so proud and honored to serve his country,” Mary Robertson said of her son.
But on Tuesday, one of his final days at home, a family day at Freeman Lake turned tragic. Kenny was seen struggling on his kayak before he disappeared beneath the surface. His body was recovered the following day.
“I made the phone call, called him to come over for dinner and he didn’t answer. He never called back,” Michelle Logan said.
It’s when she knew in her heart something had happened. Kenny, she said, was like a son to her. She said he was passionate about his family, his faith and serving his country.
“He was so excited he was jumping on the porch. I came outside, I said, ‘Kenny what are you so excited about?’ He said, ‘I’m going to be a Marine!’ she said of that day in 2018.
But even before becoming a Marine, it was evident Kenny had a servant’s heart. Thanks in part to a chance meeting at a McDonald’s, he became friends with a Radcliff police officer. The friendship lasted for years and convinced the young man he wanted a career in law enforcement.
That officer, Captain Willie Wells, saw his young friend Tuesday, just before he headed to Freeman Lake.
“He made it a point to tell me he made sure to get up here again and he just had a heart of gold and was such a good kid,” Wells said.
“He was a good son, an amazing brother and a much-loved friend,” his mother said.

Louisville Metro Police Department Information
The LMPD is a large police force that was formed in 2003 when the Louisville Police Department merged with the Jefferson County Police Department. The purpose of the merger was to make the combined department more efficient and to focus resources within the police districts. The merger ensured that each district had the resources necessary to protect residents and investigate and prevent crime.
LMPD officers typically start their careers with an assignment to one of the LMPDs ten patrol divisions. Some specialty assignments are housed within the patrol districts, such as major case squads and street crimes units. Peace Officer Professional Standards Test

To become certified as a law enforcement officer in Indiana, officers must undergo basic training within one year of their appointment to an agency.
Training requirements, such as lesson plans and course materials, are determined by law enforcement academies, which include six satellite sites in the state.
There should be a consistent approach to training, recommend the authors of a third-party study, commissioned by Gov. Eric Holcomb and prepared by Hillard Heintze consultants, to assess curriculum and training for state-level law enforcement agencies. It is a necessary, and eye-opening, review following the tragic death in 2020 of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.
One of the state-level agencies, the Indiana Gaming Commission, which monitors casino activity, revised use-of-force policies after Floyds death. However, there is no schedule for a formal ongoing review of policies.
Gaming commission officers and supervisors put the hiring of more officers over the purchase of body-worn cameras, a common theme among other agencies, although Indiana State Police are set to purchase cameras. Holcomb has issued a mandate that every frontline state officer use a body camera.
Nearly across the board, the agencies reviewed are asked to evaluate policies in light of current trends, societal changes and proven best practices.
The report evaluates only state-level agencies, not county, city or town agencies.
Louisville Metro Police Training Academy
New LMPD police recruits must complete basic training at the Louisville Metro Police Training Academy before becoming full-time, sworn officers. The academy basic training lasts 24 weeks and provides new recruits with over 1,000 hours of instruction on patrol operations, investigative procedures, self-defense, firearms, traffic stops, and many other necessary skill areas. Once police academy training is completed, a new officer must then spend 24 weeks in field training, during which time they will work with three different senior officers on three different shifts for eight weeks each. Officers who perform well will complete an additional 28 weeks as a probationary officer before being offered permanent employment.
