Interview With The Police Department Board
When you pass the required tests, the last step in the application process is an interview with the police department board. In this interview, law enforcement officers from the department ask questions on many topics, such as your interest in the role, your credentials, what you might do in certain situations and how much you know about Texas law and the department where you want to work. Interviewers score your responses, and if you’re among the candidates with the highest scores, they may select you for the role.

Iletsb School Resource Officer: Preliminary Program Policies And Curriculum
In accordance with the requirements of PA 100-984, the Board approved a preliminary draft for our School Resource Officer program policies and curriculum at the last Board meeting. This allows for further review and feedback to be gathered before courses must be conducted and officers seek to complete training before the January 1, 2021 deadline.
This document was prepared in coordination with the Shriver Center on Poverty Law and is a culmination of feedback from stakeholders and interested parties, including current SROs, chiefs and sheriffs, school administrators, community advocates, parent groups, trainers, and Board staff. As the notes and feedback of those meetings were compiled, it became clear that the general consensus was for SROs to be trained in youth communication, recognition of hardships and disabilities, threat recognition and response, and the intricacies of Illinois juvenile protection statutes.
Ultimately, we determined that officers who had previously attended a recognized School Resource Officer Course may be eligible for a waiver if they also attended a juvenile law course and an active threat response course. These elements became the building blocks of the course and program we developed. Under this structure, officers have two options for attaining an SRO certificate, attend our course, or attend other Board-certified courses in the 3 topic areas.

5018.5 Training officers on interviewing/investigating an officer subject to a complaint.
8.5 An agency employing full-time or part-time officers shall provide training to any officer or supervisor who performs or supervises an investigation under Iowa Code section 80F.1 and shall maintain documentation of completed training.
8.5 Pursuant to Iowa Code section 80F.1, a peace officer or supervisor who performs or supervises an investigation of an officer who is the subject of a complaint shall receive a minimum of two hours of training on the fundamentals of interviewing. It is recommended that a peace officer who performs active investigations of officers who are the subject of complaints also receive additional training.

The Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission sets the standards and requirements for individuals who wish to become police officers in the state of Alabama. Documentation Of Criminal Charges
When an applicant has a criminal record, he/she must list ALL charges, regardless of the disposition or the date of the charge, on the Personal History Statement and the Report of Appointment/Application for Certification. Even if a charge was dismissed by the court or the district attorney, it still must be listed under the Criminal Offense Record section of these forms.
Every charge listed must be accompanied by true/certified copies of the warrant for arrest, citation/magistrates order, etc. and the court disposition/judgment. This documentation may be obtained from the Clerk of Courts Office in the county in which the applicant was criminally charged.
Failure to list ALL charges may result in denial of certification or suspension/revocation of an existing certification.
Pass Additional Testing Requirements & Personal History Evaluation
Candidates that meet the minimum eligibility requirements and have passed all three components of initial testing may be selected by the Police Department to advance further in the hiring and selection process. It is at this point where the department will conduct a âdeep diveâ investigation into the qualifications, background, and health of the candidate, to further screen the candidateâs fitness for employment.
There are no nationwide standards for the screening of police officers â laws and regulations establishing minimum requirements are set by state and local agencies â however, there are many common procedures, outlined below, that most departments will administer to determine which candidates will advance to the academy and receive an appointment.

A Personal History Questionnaire is a survey presented in multiple-choice format, that typically accompanies a full criminal background investigation of the candidate. There are some new requirements introduced in order to professionalize and improve the 560 hour part-time academy. You will need to contact your Mobile Team Unit Coordinator for details. Please keep in mind that due to monetary and personnel limitations, not all MTUs will be able to offer the part-time training program. Pass The State Officer Certification Examination
Before prospective police officers can be sworn in, they must successfully pass the state officer certification examination . The state certification exam is 200 questions long and candidates must achieve a passing score of 80% to advance.
There is a fee of $100 for taking the SOCE. If a candidate fails three times, they must re-enroll and complete the Basic Recruit Training Program again before attempting the State Officer Certification Exam again.
