The crash occurred near a kindergarten in Brovary and killed the leadership team of Ukraines interior ministry, including Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky.
The rescue operation lasted more than nine hours, and a criminal investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine, Zelensky said in his nightly video address.
US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed their condolences following the deadly helicopter crash, while NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called it a new tragedy for a country that has already suffered during the war.

Lists Of Killings By Law Enforcement Officers In The United States
dynamic listsadding missing itemsreliable sourcesper capita
Below are lists of people killed by law enforcement in the United States, both on duty and off duty.Although Congress instructed the Attorney General in 1994 to compile and publish annual statistics on police use of excessive force, this was never carried out, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation does not collect these data.
The CountedNew York Times
The annual average number of justifiable homicides alone was previously estimated to be near 400. Updated estimates from the Bureau of Justice Statistics released in 2015 estimate the number to be around 930 per year, or 1,240 if assuming that non-reporting local agencies kill people at the same rate as reporting agencies. A 2019 study by Esposito, Lee, and Edwards states that police killings are a leading cause of death for men aged 2529 at 1.8 per 100000, trailing causes such as accidental death , suicide , and other homicides .
Around 20152016, The Guardian newspaper ran its own database, The Counted, which tracked US killings by police and other law enforcement agencies including from gunshots, tasers, car accidents and custody deaths. They counted 1,146 deaths for 2015 and 1,093 deaths for 2016. The database can be viewed by state, gender, race/ethnicity, age, classification , and whether the person killed was armed.
Assault Weapons Led To 6x As Many People Shot Per Mass Shooting
High-capacity magazines allow a shooter to fire more rounds without pausing to reload. The more rounds a shooter can fire consecutively, the more gunshot wounds they can inflict during an attack.Peter Rhee et al., Gunshot Wounds: A Review Of Ballistics, Bullets, Weapons, And Myths, Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery 80, no. 6 : 853-67 While nearly every assault weapon used in a mass shooting over this period included a high-capacity magazine, an additional 20 mass shootings involved the use of high-capacity magazines with other guns. In total, at least 42 mass shootings involved high-capacity magazines, which resulted in 422 people killed and 710 people wounded. Of those 42 mass shootings that involved high-capacity magazines, three-fourths occurred in public places.Of the 43 mass shootings that involved high-capacity magazines, 27 occurred entirely in public, and another five occurred both in a private home and in public. As a whole, the mass shootings we know involved the use of high-capacity magazines resulted in nearly five times as many people shot on average as those that did not.Type of magazine used is known in 76 incidents. Incidents in which magazine capacity was unknown have been excluded. Mass shootings involving a high-capacity magazine resulted in an average of 10 people killed and 16.9 people wounded per shooting, compared to 4.6 people killed and 1.1 people wounded when smaller magazines were used.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 39-year-old William Simpkins was fatally shot by Atlanta police officers who said they were responding to a call that Simpkins was firing rounds into the air.
The first officer who arrived at the scene attempted to speak to Simpkins, police said. Simpkins then allegedly started to shoot at the officer. Six officers were engaged in a gunfire exchange with Simpkins and dozens of rounds were fired, police said. One of the officers fatally shot Simpkins.
Downtown Atlanta Protest Turns Into Riot Six Arrested Police Say
“I saw people smashing out taillights of cop cars and windows,” witness says
A witness to a riot that broke out during a protest in downtown Atlanta told FOX 5 he saw people smashing taillights and windows of law enforcement vehicles.
ATLANTA – What started as a peaceful protest against the death of a Georgia-based activist took a violent turn in downtown Atlanta Saturday evening when people began throwing bricks at buildings and setting fire to police vehicles. In a joint news conference, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and Police Chief Darin Schierbaum made their stance on this very clear: They will always support and protect the first amendment right to peacefully protest, there is no room for violence in Atlanta.
Demonstrators took to Underground Atlanta Saturday to demand an investigation into the death of Manuel Esteban Paez Teran, a 26-year-old protester who killed by Georgia State Troopers during a sweep at Intrenchment Creek Park Wednesday. That area is the planned site for the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, or what some critics are calling “Cop City.”

Investigators said Teran did not comply with commands by a joint task force, and that he fired at a trooper first.
Seven people were arrested and charged with domestic terrorism on Wednesday.
Mayor Dickens said some of them carried explosives.

Funding The Police Versus Redirecting Funding
For a period after Floyds killing, lawmakers vowed to cut police funding in many cities. But many of those budgets were restored or increased by the end of 2021. That happened even as the national rate of police killings overall, but especially of Black Americans, increased, according to The Washington Posts data.
Theyre turning these encounters into ghastly encounters, said Mac, the activist. I dont know any other instance where an apparatus can be so bad at its job and continue to get increased funding. It really flies in the face of conventional wisdom. Its just putting bad money on top of bad money.
Beyond defunding the police, she said, redirecting resources should be the objective.
I dont see a way out of this until we look beyond policing for safety for our communities, she said. The very righteous call to defund the police is not just about taking resources away from the police. Its also about where we put those resources to get us beyond these moments of people being killed.
Like others who want to abolish police and systems of incarceration, Mac said funds intended for police should instead address root problems like ensuring safe housing and sufficient clothing, food and mental health and addiction services.
Police Killed 3 People Per Day Last Year
American police forces killed three people per day in 2019, for a total of nearly 1,100 killings.
Those numbers are far higher than in other wealthy western countries.
In comparison, The Guardian newspaper reported in 2015 that there was a total of 55 fatal police shootings in England and Wales between 1990 and 2014. Only 15 people were shot fatally by German police in 2010 and 2011 combined, the newspaper reported. The U.S. population is about six times that of England and Wales, and four times that of Germany.
According to Mapping Police Violence data, December and January were the months with the most police killings last year. In December, 110 people were killed by the police. In January, the figure was 105. In February, the month with the fewest deaths, 80 people were killed by the police.
There were only 27 days in which no police killings were reported, according to the data.

Emotionally Disturbed Man Charged In Fired Nypd Cops Stabbing Death
A total of 331 cops were shot across the country in 2022, a 6% increase from 2020, according to a new accounting from the National Fraternal Order of Police.
Of officers who were shot in the line of duty, 62 were killed, up 32% from 2020, the police group said.
This past year has been one of the most dangerous years for law enforcement in recent history due to the increase of violence directed towards law enforcement officers as well as the nationwide crime crisis, which has seen criminals emboldened by the failed policies of pandering prosecutors and cynical politicians, said Patrick Yoes, the president of the police group.
Last years grim tally was slightly down from 2021 when a record 346 officers were shot and 63 killed.
In New York City, 10 officers were shot in 2022, up from eight the year before, according to NYPD stats.
Two officers, Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora were killed in January 2022 when they were ambushed during a domestic violence call in Harlem.
That attack came just a day after a detective was wounded during a drug bust on Staten Island. Dominick Libretti was called a hero for using his ballistic shield to protect his team from gunfire.
The year ended with seven-year NYPD veteran Orlando Adorno being shot in the foot in Brooklyn while handcuffing a suspect.
Former Us Secretary Of Labor Robert Reich Drew Attention After Tweeting Out The Number
On April 20, 2021, former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich tweeted about the number of people who had been shot and killed by law enforcement in the United States in the past year:
Reich wrote: “984 people have been shot and killed by police in the past year. The system is still getting away with murder.”
Reich’s message was posted shortly after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of murder and manslaughter charges in the killing of George Floyd and after a 16-year-old girl was shot and killed by an officer in Ohio.
This statistic comes from The Washington Post’s Fatal Force database, which has been tracking fatal police shootings since 2015. It should be noted that Floyd, as well as people like Elijah McClain, who both died in police custody but not via gunshot, are not included in this database.
The Washington Post’s statistics are culled from news reports, law enforcement websites, and similar databases related to police shootings. In addition to cataloging the number of people who have been killed by police, the Post also recorded data related to the race, gender, and age of the people involved. According to the Post, the majority of people who had been shot and killed by police are male and under the age of 40. The Washington Post’s database shows that more white people have been killed by police since the company started tracking the data, however, Black people are killed at a disproportionate rate:

List Of Mass Shootings In The United States In 2022
This is a list of shootings in the United States that occurred in 2022. Mass shootings are incidents involving several victims of firearm-related violence. The precise inclusion criteria are disputed, and there is no broadly accepted definition.
Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit research group that tracks shootings and their characteristics in the United States, defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four or more people, excluding the perpetrator, are shot in one location at roughly the same time. The Congressional Research Service narrows that definition to four or more killed and excludes the injured who survive. The Washington Post and Mother Jones use similar definitions, with the latter acknowledging that their definition “is a conservative measure of the problem”, as many shootings with fewer fatalities occur. The crowdsourced Mass Shooting Tracker project applies the most expansive definition: four or more shot in any incident, including the perpetrator.
A 2019 study of mass shootings published in the journal Injury Epidemiology recommended developing “a standard definition that considers both fatalities and nonfatalities to most appropriately convey the burden of mass shootings on gun violence.” The authors of the study further suggested that “the definition of mass shooting should be four or more people, excluding the shooter, who are shot in a single event regardless of the motive, setting or number of deaths.”

Number Of Us Police Officers Murdered Up By 59%
Murders of police officers rose by nearly 60% during 2021, amid a wider rise in violent crime across the US, according to FBI Director Christopher Wray.
In an interview with 60 Minutes, Mr Wray said 73 officers were killed in the line of duty last year.
Murders of all kinds across the US have risen dramatically since 2019.
Mr Wray said violence against police was a “phenomena” that “doesn’t get enough attention”.
He said it amounted to an officer killed every five days. Around 1,000 people are killed in the US by police each year, although only a small proportion of cases lead to criminal charges.
Mr Wray said that “some” of the violence against police is “tied to the violent crime problem as a whole”.
But, he said, authorities believe that “an alarming percentage” of the officers killed were targeted and “killed through things like being ambushed or shot while out on patrol”.
“Wearing the badge shouldn’t make you a target,” he added.
Mr Wray did not disclose how many of the 73 officers were targeted in such a manner.
In January, however, the Fraternal Order of Police said that it had recorded 103 “ambush-style attacks” on officers in 2021, resulting in 130 officers shot and 30 killed.
In 2020, the FBI’s own data estimates that murders rose 29% from 2019, the sharpest increase since national-level record keeping began in 1960.
“Certainly the pandemic didn’t help,” Mr Wray said of the spike in murders.
Over 60000 Officers Assaulted In 2020 With 31% Sustaining Injuries: Fbi
It was an increase of 4,071 assaults from 2019.
More than 60,000 law enforcement officers were assaulted in the line of duty in 2020, including more than 40 who were killed, according to the FBI.
The total of 60,105 was an increase of 4,071 from 2019, with FBI drawing on reports from some 9,895 law enforcement agencies.
Among those assaulted, about 31% sustained injuries. In 2020, 46 officers were killed, down from 48 in 2019, FBI data showed.
Most of the assaults on officers happened after they responded to disturbance calls, including family quarrels and bar fights, according to the FBI.
“Police officers across the country are facing an increase in violent crime and violent acts committed against them,” said Laura Cooper, executive director of the Major Cities Chiefs Association. “Facing these dangerous situations is another reason why it has been difficult for police agencies to find recruits who want to put on a uniform and put their lives on the line.”

% Of Domestic Violence
In at least 71 mass shootings, the shooter had a known previous history of domestic violence. In 56 of those mass shootings, the shooter shot and killed an intimate partner or family member as part of their rampage.
Intimate partner and family violence are far more likely to turn deadly when guns are involved. Abusers with firearms are five times more likely to kill their female victims, and guns further exacerbate the power and control dynamic used by abusers to inflict emotional abuse and exert coercive control over their victims.Jacquelyn C. Campbell et al., Risk Factors for Femicide in Abusive Relationships: Results from a Multisite Case Control Study, American Journal of Public Health 93, no. 7 : 1089-1097. Black Americans Disproportionately Killed By Police
According to an analysis by Mapping Police Violence, despite only making up 13 percent of the US population, Black Americans are nearly three times as likely as white Americans to be killed by the police. The group also found that levels of violent crime in US cities do not determine rates of police violence.
A further analysis performed by policeviolencereport.org found that Black people were more likely to be killed by police , more likely to be unarmed and less likely to be threatening someone when killed .

Nato Chief Is Confident That Turkey Will Finalize Accession Process For Finland And Sweden
From CNNs Allegra Goodwin in London
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday expressed his confidence that Turkey would finalize the process for Nordic countries Finland and Sweden to join the US-led military alliance.
I’m confident that Turkey will finalize the accession process for Finland and Sweden, Stoltenberg said at a World Economic Forum panel in Davos, Switzerland, adding he did not know when this would be.
This would be the fastest accession process in NATOs modern history, he noted. Normally, accession to NATO takes years. Its less than a year since Finland and Sweden applied.
Remember: NATO decisions are made by consensus, which means all 30 alliance member states must approve the two nations joining. Turkey is the only member that has voiced opposition to their membership, on the grounds of terror concerns.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in video remarks to the forum Wednesday again reiterated his desire for Ukraine to join NATO, saying that the alliance “is the best security guarantee for us, for our country, for our kids.”
