How Do I Obtain A Police Report

• How do I obtain a police report?

In most cases the public portion of police reports can be obtained from the APD Incident Report Database. Please read the Incident Report Database instructions on how to obtain the report. Make sure to enter the case number exactly how it is shown in the instructions.

For information about purchasing a copy of the public portion of a police report contact the Austin Police Department Report Sales Unit at 974-5499. Reports can be purchased at the Main Police Headquarters, located at 715 E 8th Street. Reports are 10 cents a page and only the public portion is available for purchase from the report sales office. This is the same report that can be obtained from visiting the APD Incident Report Database. Report Sales new hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Hard Copy Police Reports Available

Reports are typically available for pickup four business days after the report was taken. To get the status of a police report, please call 770.513.5000.

Incident and accident reports may be obtained at any of the 7 locations listed below. Reports are available Monday through Friday. Offices/Precincts are closed on county holidays. Please refer to the website calendar section for a complete list of holidays. Accident reports are $5, incident report costs average 10 cents per page and in certain instances may be free to victims . On average incident reports run 50 cents or less and cash payment is preferred if under $1.00. Please bring exact change as we are often unable to break bills larger than $10.

Only individuals with appointments may visit the office. Applicants will be required to take a temperature reading upon entering the building. To allow for social distancing, do not bring additional people to your appointment. Translation services will be provided, if necessary. When planning your travel time, include extra time to pass through two security checks.

All Certificates of Conduct will be mailed via United States Postal Service after the completion of processing. Processing and mailing should occur within ten business days.

Request A Police Incident Report Copy Online

Request and receive all types of San Francisco Police Incident Reports through an online portal. Report types include traffic collisions, domestic violence and all other incidents of general crime. Using the portal is the most secure and convenient way to request and receive incident reports from the San Francisco Police Department. An account can be created within the Incident Report Request Portal to track the request and receive reports and correspondences securely online.

Traffic Collision Reports: Before attempting to obtain a copy of a collision report, please allow a minimum of five days from the date of the collision to allow the report to be reviewed and approved for release.

Why Are These The Only Crimes Shown

With the Police Reports Map and 9-1-1 Response Map, SPD is making almost all of our reports available online. The Department attempted to be very thoughtful about what information was released and what was not. These decisions were not made to “hide” types of crimes from the public, instead decisions were made about who to protect.

The only reports that are not being released under this system are when the rights of the victim, age of the victim, possibility of revictimization or overall public safety/security issues take clear precedence over the public right to know.

Information on Rape and other sexual offenses, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Kidnapping, Suicides, locations that are sensitive , Homeland Security issues and tactical information that might compromise the safety of our officers are not being released in this system.

If the event is one of the many types we do show, but the location code was entered into the system incorrectly, the location of the event cannot then be verified. In this scenario, this particular event will not appear on the map at all, rather than providing possibly misleading information.

How Are Police Reports Obtained And How Much Do They Cost

Accident Reports, Incidents, and Crime Reports: can be obtained from the Records Bureau as soon as they become available. You may request the report in person, but reports take time to prepare and we strongly recommend that you call ahead for a copy of a report so that we can have it available to you when you come in. If the report you are interested in obtaining is for insurance purposes or for a lawyer, you may prefer to have them request the report for you.

Accident Reports:

You may obtain a copy of an official Accident Report that the officer completed if you were an operator of one of the vehicles in the accident, or the owner of a vehicle involved in the accident, or an injured party, or an insurance company requesting on behalf of their clients, or attorneys representing clients in a civil action. Accident Reports are obtained from the NH Department of Safety Division of Motor Vehicles by completing Form DSMV 505. For any assistance, please contact the Division of Motor Vehicles at 227-4040.

An incident sheet is a very brief description of calls that officers respond to. An incident sheet is typically one page of information that includes the date and time of an incident, the location, and the name of officer who responded to the scene. There is a $1 processing charge for the copy of an incident page.

After submitting the report, a temporary number will be automatically sent to you by email. All communication will be done by email. Your report will be reviewed and if any changes are required, you will be sent a request for changes. Once the report is corrected and approved, you will receive an official event number by email, as well as a PDF copy of the report.

Make sure you have a valid email address as well as the date and location of the crime and information on the vehicle involved, if applicable.

If you meet these criteria and the type of incident that occurred appears on the list above, you may file your report.

How Can I Get A Copy Of My Criminal Record

Criminal History : Local criminal history for the City of San Diego only, can be obtained in person on Tuesday and Thursdays only, between the hours of 8:00am to 11:00am. You must have a valid government identification and $12.00 cash, check or money order only. No Credit of Debit cards accepted.

Online By Phone And In Person

Check the police department’s website for information on obtaining police reports. The site will typically provide instructions on ordering a report, but may also provide a phone number or email address you can use to confirm whether your report is ready for pick-up. In most jurisdictions, the records unit or a report processing unit typically handles police report requests. This is the counter or office that you must visit in person or call to request status of a police report.

Some jurisdictions allow you to order a copy of the police report through a secure portal accessed through the department’s website. To use this service, bear in mind that you will need to have a valid e-mail address and generally, you must be the person who reported the incident not a relative, friend, witness and so on. California Family Code § 6228 provides that victims of the alleged crimes, listed above, may receive a copy of their incident report within five days of their request, free of charge. Due to the sensitive information included in the reports, SFPD protocol requires in-person identification verification. Victims or their designated representatives must either submit their request in-person or pick-up their incident report in person at CISU Records Management. For a list of acceptable forms of identification, please refer to Section 2 of the Request for Police Report: Family Code § 6228 form.
