Registration Is Open On Monday April 18

Participants will explore firsthand various aspects of law enforcement, with a curriculum developed by the Police Department that will emphasize the importance of qualities such as physical fitness, staying drug free, teamwork and respect.

Activities throughout the week will include lessons in drill and ceremony, physical training, school safety and bullying, drug awareness, traffic safety, an introduction to special units, crime scene processing and fingerprinting and first aid.

Participants will also tour the juvenile detention center and Cherry Hill Fire Department Central Command. The week will conclude with a formal graduation ceremony on Friday afternoon.

The program is limited to 40 Cherry Hill residents.

*Open to Cherry Hill Residents only. Parents must complete ALL necessary paperwork and health forms in advance of program. A mandatory parent and cadet orientation will be conducted before the Academy begins, no exceptions.

Complete A Written Evaluation

There’s a written exam all police officer candidates pass to apply for a position. This exam tests basic abilities, including reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, analytical skills and mathematics. Exhibiting competency in these areas shows the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police that you can handle training at an academy where you may apply these abilities to learn specific techniques and obtain knowledge that’s highly relevant to police duties.

You can prepare for this exam by taking an online preparation course. You can also contact the local police department to see if they can provide additional instruction or materials, such as a downloadable study guide. Another option is to practice your basic abilities in math and English by solving word problems, memorizing equations and practicing your language skills. New Jersey Trooper Or Highway Patrol Requirements

The New Jersey State Police is headquartered in West Trenton. The starting salary for New Jersey state troopers is $62,736 per year, which rises to $70,515 in the second year of service.4 Troopers receive incremental increases each year thereafter.4

Interview In Person With An Employer

After passing the qualifying exams, you interview in person with members of the Police Chiefs Association and the police academy director. The academy director may determine how many people interview you and use the results from your previous examinations.

Equivalency Of Training Process

This process is intended for out-of-state officers, federal or military officers, and previously certified Florida officers with a four-year or more break in service pursuant to section 943.131. An officer cannot have more than an 8-year break in service in order to be eligible for this process. The Equivalency of Training Process allows an officer to be exempt from the full basic recruit academy.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Worked for at least one year as a full time sworn officer in the discipline that you are seeking
• Attended an academy comparable to Floridaâs basic recruit full-time academy or
• Were previously certified in Florida

Once approved, you will receive an Equivalency of Training CJSTC Form 76.

You will then need to demonstrate proficiency in the high liability areas and pass the state certification exam in the same discipline within 1-year of receipt of the approved Equivalency of Training CJSTC Form 76.
