The first step to finding your lost Android phone is by using Googles Find My Device. Assuming your phone is still connected to the internet and its still linked to your Google account, you can visit the Google Find my Device page when logged in to your Google account and try to locate your Android device. Worst case, you will find the last connected location.
The other option is to check your Google location history. If your mobile device is still connected to your Google account, you should be able to see where your phone traveled.
Alternatively, if someone who has your phone uses the camera to take photos, it can get synced with your Google Photos account, so keep an eye on that as well.
2. How to locate iPhone thats turned off?
You can log in to Find My via iCloud either through your other Apple device or with your friends iPhone. If your device is turned on, you will be able to see it on the map. If it is off, you can tap on Lost Mode so you can see the last known location of your device.
Is It Possible To Triangulate The Location Of A Cell Phone
Locating a mobile phone based on a single cell tower can place the mobile phone in a broad area, but it cannot pinpoint it. As the phone connects to more towers, the accuracy improves. By using cell tower triangulation , it is possible to determine a phone location to within an area of about ¾ square mile.
Cellphone And Smart Device Location Data: Where Does It Come From
Cellphone and wireless service providers and tech companies store certain historical and real-time location data gleaned from cellphone connections with cell towers, GPS satellite tracking, and smart device applications and operating systems. Law enforcement can request this data using a court order or warrant. Some examples of this data include:
Historical CSLI. A typical cellphone produces a time-stamped record every time it connects to a cell site. This record is referred to as “cell-site location information” . With CSLI, police can get a really good idea of where someone’s phone has been, allowing them to piece together past eventsfor instance, connecting the dots as to a suspect’s location at the scene of a crime.
Real-time CSLI. To obtain real-time data, a service provider can either contemporaneously monitor a phone’s CSLI connections or “ping” a user’s cellphone and force it to reveal its location. This real-time data can provides police with information on a suspect’s current whereabouts.
GPS movements. A phone or car’s GPS system tracks its movements using satellite signals. This information might be stored on the phone or vehicle itself or transmitted to a repository. It can also be relayed to police in real time.

Carpenter V United States
In the 2018 case Carpenter v. United States, the Supreme Court found that this lower standard did not suffice for a request of a month’s worth of historical CSLI data on a defendant’s phone. The Court held the acquisition of these records constituted a Fourth Amendment search and the police needed to get a probable cause warrant.
This decision was consistent with the trend suggested by recent decisions dealing with the relationship between technology and privacy. The Court had held in 2012 that the police can’t arbitrarily slap a GPS on a car and track the vehicle’s movements , and in 2014, that officers normally need a warrant to search the cellphone of someone they’ve arrested .

But they can ask the cellular providers to track a smartphone based on the IMEI number. That way, assuming the thief has factory reset your phone, the operator can still track it using the IMEI. No operator would do that unless the police or any law enforcement firm ask them to do so.

Short answer: If your phone is protected by a passcode or biometric unlocking features, theres a chance police cant gain access to your personal data. But thats not guaranteed.
Long answer: In addition to data hosted by a third party, theres a lot of information that can only be gained from access to your phone. For example, the data in iCloud backups is only as recent as the last time you uploaded it, and it only includes what you choose to give it assuming you back up your phone at all. Encrypted messaging services like WhatsApp dont store messages on their servers or keep track of who is sending them to whom, so the only way for police to access them is through the senders or the receivers device. And as weve explained above, the government can get WhatsApp messages from the person youre communicating with, but only if it knows who it is in the first place.
Essentially, the Fifth Amendment says you cant be compelled to give self-incriminating testimony. Testimony, in this case, is defined as revealing the contents of your own mind. Therefore, civil rights advocates say, the government cant force you to tell them your phones password.
Obviously, a 44-year-old decision over tax papers doesnt take into account how information can be stored today, nor how much.
The EFFs position is that the foregone conclusion exception is very narrow and should never apply in these passcode cases, Crocker said.

There are two ways a cellular network provider can locate a phone connected to their network, either through pinging or triangulation. Pinging is a digital process and triangulation is an analog process.

Proving you were illegally tracked is no simple feat. Sadly, to do this, youll need a lawyer who can subpoena records to discover whether the police went through the proper channels. A regular citizen cant demand these records unless they represent themselves in court, and that is rarely wise.

When it comes to digital surveillance, comparing us to the Yanks might still be a bit like comparing Heartbeat to The Wire, but our boys sat in their Doughnut in Cheltenham still know plenty enough to turn your phone data into a prison sentence.

Supreme Court To Open A Whirlwind Term
In April of 2011, police arrested four men, one of whom confessed that he and a shifting group of 15 others had robbed nine different stores over the previous year. The suspect identified Timothy Carpenter as one of the ringleaders. The thieves all pleaded guilty, except for Carpenter and his half-brother.
At their trial, the icing on the prosecution’s case was the cellphone location information recorded by Carpenter’s wireless provider for each of the calls he placed or received on the dates of the robberies.
This was seven years ago, and several smartphone generations ago, too. The information used at Carpenter’s trial was not exactly precise. It did not record where he was when he texted, or where he was when his phone was not in use. But when he made or received calls, the cellphone towers nearby recorded his general location, with an accuracy range of about a half mile to 2 miles. And those calls matched up rather nicely with the vicinity of the robberies.
While there was also eyewitness and video evidence against Carpenter, the painfully irrefutable evidence was the cell-site location information, according to Carpenter’s trial lawyer, Harold Gurewitz.
The cellphone location data, he says, is “the kind of evidence that, in the end, is the most difficult to argue to a jury that they shouldn’t credit, because the records are what they are.”
