If the report contains information involving a juvenile you must complete a Request for Release of Juvenile Case Information form. You must appear in person at the police station to execute this document. Your signature must be witnessed by a police employee or notary public, as it must go before the Judge of the Juvenile Court for a ruling. The Juvenile Judge decides whether or not the report can be released to you. Please plan ahead for this process as it takes a little longer than normal. Generally it takes about two weeks.

Why Are Some Things Blacked Out On The Page

Because the internet is so vast, and can be complicated for those who don’t fully understand how to use it, it can be a playground for scammers
Benoit also urges people to watch out for the “romance scam,” where the scammer and their victim talk with each other, romantically, on an app, sometimes for an extended period of time. Eventually, the scammer, who is likely using a fabricated profile, will ask their victim for money.
Over a year and a half ago, Benoit was working with the victim of a romance scam, an elderly woman who lives in Neenah.
“Altogether, she’s out a little over $40,000 and she cashed out part of her retirement for that, and actually overnighted cash, too,” Benoit said.
The woman had been speaking with someone who presented themselves as a general in the U.S. Army who lived in Texas. What first started out as sending small amounts of cash through gift cards quickly escalated into her sending large amounts of cash in the mail to an address she was given.
Upon further investigation, it was found that the address belonged to a home that was foreclosed and abandoned.
“It’s very sad, but it’s a whole grooming process,” Benoit said. “The adults out there need to be very watchful of their parents for this elder abuse and financial abuse.”
According to the Better Business Bureau, the place most people reported being targeted by a scam was while browsing social media, followed by while online shopping, using email, using a search engine, and searching for jobs.

No. The Public Records Act allows agencies only the charge for the direct costs of duplication, or a statutory fee if appliable.9 That means that agencies can charge for the costs of paper and ink, or for the disks or drives on which they provide data, but cannot charge for the time their staff spend finding records, making copies or even redacting documents. Despite this, for several years, police agencies still tried to charge requestors an hourly rate, often amounting to thousands of dollars, for the time their staff spent editing body camera video to redact confidential information, arguing that editing video was more like programming a computer to extract data than it was like redacting a document.
However, on May 28, 2020, the California Supreme Court in National Lawyers Guild v. City of Hayward rejected this argument10 and held that the Public Records Act does not allow police departments to charge requestors of police body camera footage for the staff time required to locate that footage and edit it to redact audio & video to remove private information.

Why Are These The Only Crimes Shown
With the Police Reports Map and 9-1-1 Response Map, SPD is making almost all of our reports available online. The Department attempted to be very thoughtful about what information was released and what was not. These decisions were not made to hide types of crimes from the public, instead decisions were made about who to protect.
The only reports that are not being released under this system are when the rights of the victim, age of the victim, possibility of revictimization or overall public safety/security issues take clear precedence over the public right to know.
Information on Rape and other sexual offenses, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Kidnapping, Suicides, locations that are sensitive , Homeland Security issues and tactical information that might compromise the safety of our officers are not being released in this system.
If the event is one of the many types we do show, but the location code was entered into the system incorrectly, the location of the event cannot then be verified. In this scenario, this particular event will not appear on the map at all, rather than providing possibly misleading information.
