What Happens If I Plead Not Guilty To A Speeding Ticket In Ny

If you are caught driving 16 miles per hour or more over the speed limit, your insurance will be more expensive. When you plead not guilty, you place the burden of proof on the prosecution. Motorists in New York can accumulate 10 points on their licenses in an 18-month period before their licenses are suspended for driving offenses. You may face suspension for driving at an excessive rate of speed regardless of your total number of points. Unlike in most other parts of the state, the five boroughs in New York City handle traffic tickets in a different manner. The Traffic Violations Bureau of the Department of Motor Vehicles handles all non-criminal moving violations in New York City.
