Traffic Enforcement Training Unit

The Traffic Enforcement Training Unit is responsible for the training of newly hired probationary traffic enforcement agents and for the in-service training of veteran traffic enforcement agents. Their mission is to provide an educational foundation for all traffic enforcement personnel in the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective agents. Through the training experience provided, traffic enforcement agents will gain the skills necessary to help in the reduction of pedestrian injuries from collisions while keeping the vehicular traffic moving throughout New York City.

This unit provides training for the Traffic Enforcement Division in the following areas:

• Entry Level Recruit Training
• Reinstatement Training
• In-Service Training

The entry-level training entails 12-14 weeks of classroom and field instruction. Upon graduation, traffic enforcement agents are assigned to one of many commands throughout the five boroughs.

How Long Is Police Academy Training

Every police academy is structured a little bit differently but at the end of the day, most of the policies are very similar. The average police academy requires recruits go through 800 hours of training before they can graduate and be sworn in. What The Police Academy Is Like

After you are hired as an Entry Level Police Officer you will attend the basic police academy. The police academy is the first step in your training to become a self-sufficient solo police officer.

The police academy is designed to provide you the basic knowledge, skills and mindset that youll need to be successful. We typically send our new officers to the Alameda County Sheriff academy. Each is approximately 7 months in duration. Youll attend the academy Monday through Friday during the day. Neither academy is a live-in academy, so youll return home each day after class.

During the academy, you will receive instruction in a variety of topics ranging from use of force law, firearms, community policing, ground-fighting, evidence procedures and more. Each topic if divided into over 40 different Learning Domains.

An Overview Of Our Constable Development Program

Our cadet training program at the police academy aims to test you both physically and mentally to see whether you have what it takes to be a member of SA Police.

Phase 1

You will receive an induction to policing, covering corporate priorities and relating them to basic patrol and station work. During this phase, youll participate in an overnight training exercise at the police training reserve in Echunga. You will also undertake firearms training and driver training at the academy.

Phase 2

You will complete a placement at a local metropolitan or regional police station.

Phase 3

You will continue to build on the policing knowledge and experiences acquired during the first two phases in order to consolidate your learning. You will be sworn in as a Probationary Constable at the conclusion of this phase.

Phase 4

Working shift work, you will complete a placement within Traffic Services Branch and also in a custodial care environment. During this phase, you will receive guidance and support from a field tutor, and will be practically applying the skills and knowledge you have gained so far.

Phase 5
