What Pistols Do The Police Use In America

How to Use the LA Police Gear Flashlights

Here are the most popular other choices of pistols for cops:

Why Do Police Carry Flashlights

It’s a given that officers carry a personal light while working nighttime duty, but more than 97% of respondents said they carry their lights during daytime hours. Because a flashlight is so critical to law enforcement duty, it is one of the pieces of kit that many agencies still provide for their officers.

What To Look For In A Flashlight

When picking a flashlight, there are a few things to bear in mind that may or may not be applicable in other circumstances.

If you’re a cop, you’re certainly well aware of the importance of having a spotlight on you at all times. A plain kitchen torch is not appropriate for the duties and responsibilities of a police officer. Your flashlight should be waterproof, much more efficient, have a long battery life, and be incredibly sturdy. Knowing the value of getting a suitable police flashlight is one thing choosing the correct one that fits your needs is quite another.

Therefore, you might be asking how many lumens do police flashlights have? When buying a flashlight, it is essential to consider how many lumens you need. For police officers, the ideal flashlight is 1000 Lumens and up. Here are the things you should consider when buying flashlights:

No police officer wants to be caught off guard by an attacker.

In the event of a surprise attack, an officer can quickly retaliate by holding up his flashlight, turning it on in seconds since the flashlight switch is closer to the thumb in this position.

Since the power button on some flashlights is located on the back of the flashlight, it is convenient to hold the flashlight with the upper hand and leave the thumb on the button.

The Ultimate Flashlight Buying Guide For Law Enforcement

Before you go out and choose the best flashlight, its important that you understand the different qualities that a flashlight has and how they can affect its performance in the field.

Here, well go over what to look for when shopping for law enforcement flashlights. Keeping all of these aspects in mind will help you narrow down your options and guarantee that you make a well-informed final decision based on the quality of the products on hand.

Robust & Durable: Hard Casing Waterproof & Shockproof

Police use flashlights to stop cop watcher from filming Austin traffic stop

A tactical flashlight should be robust and durable. As was mentioned quite a few times previously, these flashlights are designed for professional use and thus must be able to stand up to the rigors of harsh conditions in the field. These flashlights can take a beating, whether it be from inclement weather or just general everyday use on the job. Thus, they should be both waterproof and shockproof.

As was stated earlier in this piece, tactical flashlights used to be designated essentially as a secondary mode of protection for law enforcement officers. Although the tactical flashlights are generally smaller these days, they must still be able to be used for self-defense should the situation arise. Thus, these flashlights usually have an end that is harder and normally has a distinctive serrated edge that is ideal for striking and doing some damage in the process. Not that we advocate for violence here at Peli, but its just a reality of the job that professionals in law enforcement, military and security undertake on a daily basis. Sometimes threats need to be neutralized by any means necessary. And tactical torches are ideal for those situations.

Police and emergency service flashlights usually start at 90 lumens and up. Although lumens are a really useful tool to use, the brightness of your flashlight doesnt just depend on lumens. Its also about the quality of the reflector thats tucked inside of your flashlight because this is what influences how the light is dispersed.

Similar to everyday carry knives, the best tactical flashlight is the one that suits you and your needs best. What may be the best tactical flashlight for me may not necessarily be the best tactical flashlight for you. For instance, someone on the hunt for an EDC flashlight may prefer a more compact, pocket-friendly model, while a police officer or firefighter may require a much larger, often rechargeable tactical flashlight capable of producing more candlepower and that provides much more functionality such as different brightness settings and a strobe mode. Benefits Of Using A Police Flashlight

Police flashlights, or known mainly as tactical flashlights, are suitable for both every day and hazardous situations. They usually have something called a tactical mode that is very useful.

Other than the main benefit of identifying threats, they also provide brighter light that can temporarily blind or confuse the enemys vision. The people would then react instinctively and cover their eyes.

A common feature of a police flashlight is the strobe.

A strobe functions when its light blinks rapidly, even without you having to click the button through the set mode. This kind of setting is advantageous as you can disorient the enemys attacks. The effect will be the same as illuminating light with high lumen output to peoples eyes.

Tactical flashlights can be used as a defense tool, too. With other names, this article is showing you to choose the best flashlight for law enforcement. They dont attract attention as much as deadly weapons like knives or guns.

However, they can be good blunt weapons because of the hard and durable material they were made. The durability is definitely an edge.

Those models that have unique designs at the bezel are good for striking motions.

Why Do Police Use Flashlights

Why Do Cops Hold Their Flashlights Overhand? The cop’s flashlight grip is known as the “power position.” It has a range of benefits. The first is that with this grip, shining light horizontally onto a car is much smoother. For the second, you’d have to flex your hand uncomfortably to get the beam at the correct angle.

To Disorient A Criminal

Another good reason police officers hold their flashlights above their hands is that it is easier for them to see the criminal they are trying to arrest.

Also, they do it so that the light from LED shines directly into the criminals eyes. Finally, they want to make sure the criminal can see well enough to understand verbal commands if necessary.

Why Do Police Hold Flashlights Like That

No police officer wants to be taken awares by an assailant. If attacked by surprise, an officer can quickly retaliate if his flashlight is held high. Also, as Kyle noted in comments, holding the flashlight up and away from ones body draws any gunfire aimed at the officer away from the body, too. Plus it looks cooler.

Police Survey: Flashlights And Weapon Lights

February 7, 2018 by David GriffithBookmark +

There is perhaps no more important tool for law enforcement officers than a personal light. Not only do many officers work in the night hours when flashlights and weapon-mounted lights are critical to their safety and the safety of those they serve, they also have to perform searches inside buildings and warehouses that are dark or at least dimly lit during the day.

Despite the importance of personal lights in law enforcement operations, very little research has been conducted on how officers select, acquire, and use lights on the job.

POLICE Magazine wanted to know more about your preferences for this critical law enforcement tool, so last month we conducted an extensive e-mail survey on the topic. Here are the results.

As suspected, the rate of flashlight usage by officers is extremely high. More than 98% of respondents said they use a flashlight or weapon light on duty. It’s a given that officers carry a personal light while working nighttime duty, but more than 97% of respondents said they carry their lights during daytime hours.

Purchasing Preferences

Light preference is one of the areas where officers are free to make their own choices about the gear they carry. More than 87% of respondents said their agencies do not dictate what lights they can carry.

When asked to rank the factors that are most important in their light-buying decisions, respondents chose the following in order from one to eight:
