Identifying Information Of Witnesses
In addition to providing leverage during discussions on central issues such as fault for an accident, police reports can contain the identifying information of anyone who might have witnessed the incident, or who arrived on the scene soon afterward.
At a minimum, most reports will list the name and telephone number of witnesses and those at the scene, and in some situations the report may also contain witness statements about what happened. Having contact information for these people, and especially a record of their views as to what took place, can be a valuable asset for you and your attorney when proving what happened and who was at fault.

Victims or their designated representatives must either submit their request in-person or pick-up their incident report in person at CISU Records Management. For a list of acceptable forms of identification, please refer to Section 2 of the Request for Police Report: Family Code § 6228 form.
Are Police Reports Public Records
Many types of police records are exempt from public disclosure. There are two main reasons why they arent publicly available. First, disclosing the information could undermine an ongoing investigation. Second, it could jeopardize someones privacy and safety. In some cases, departments will release certain information related to the report, such as to a reporter doing a story. However, they rarely release a full copy.

Why Am I Not Able To Obtain A Police Report
The most common reason why people cannot get a copy of a police report is because of an ongoing investigation. Once the case is closed, you should be able to obtain a copy.
If you believe you have been unfairly denied access to a police report, you may wish to have a lawyer speak to the authorities on your behalf. Juvenile records may sometimes be sealed or withheld to protect the privacy of the victim. Generally, though, the process to obtain a police report is relatively simple, depending upon who is trying to obtain the report.

Someone Else Picked Up My Canada Post Parcel

SnoopDop wrote: Hi,I bought an item from eBay, seller sent the item using Canada Post and gave me the tracking number. 2 days later I track the parcel on Canada Post and it says that they attempted delivery and left a notice in my mailbox to pick up the item from the post office. However, I never found the notice in my mailbox. I checked back 2 days later and the tracking said that the item was delivered. On Canada Post’s website, I can see the name and signature of the person, that I don’t know, who picked it up and a number that looks like a driver license number. I went to inquire at the post office but they weren’t of much help, they said they can give the parcel to someone else if a matching proof of address is provided I contacted the seller and they opened a claim/investigation with Canada Post about this issue. I’ll give it a 1-2 weeks to get resolved before opening a Paypal buyer protection claim. It sounds like someone stole the notice from my mailbox and used it with a fake/stolen proof of id/address to pickup the item.Any advice or ideas on my best available recourses ?Thanks

Tracking shows delivered. Paypal will side with the seller if you open a case.

How To Get A Police Report
By law, certain police records and violation reports prepared and maintained by the Police Department are accessible to the general public.
If you need to get a copy of a police report, do this. First, begin by researching the requirements of the police department responsible for the jurisdiction in which the incident occurred. Then, follow the departments exact protocol for requesting and receiving those records. Start by checking the police departments website. Expand your search to the city website if you dont find anything on the police departments website.

Some departments may require that you complete a request form, sometimes called a request for public records. This may also be known as a request for open records. When you check the department website, look to see if you can download the request form from their site. If so, fill out the request form and submit it according to the directions.
Most request forms will require you to provide the first and last name of at least one of the involved parties. In addition, youll need the location, date, and time of the incident, and in some cases, the incident or case number.

How To Access Your Police
Members of the public have the right to request records containing their personal information from the Ontario Provincial Police or a municipal police service. Individuals who make these requests may have, for example, played a role in a suspected offence, been involved in a call for service or some other police-attended incident or had a relative who died in circumstances that led to the involvement of a police service.
Someone else, such as a lawyer or other person acting on your behalf, may make the request for you, or you may do so yourself. You may file a request by submitting a form and paying a fee, either by mail or in person.
Commonly requested records include:
- officers notes and
- police-related 911 calls.
Many people think that they cannot request a police officers notes, but a police notebook is generally in the custody or control of the police service and is subject to freedom of information requests.
Requesting information from a police service follows the same process as asking for records from other types of government institutions. However, the nature of police-held information means that frequently some of these records or some passages within these records are exempt from disclosure under Ontarios access to information legislation.
In all cases, if you disagree with a police services decision to deny your access request in whole or part, you may file an appeal with our office.

How Do I Get A Copy Of The Police Report After My Accident In Georgia
There are three main ways to get a police report for your accident in Georgia:
Whenever law enforcement authorities are called to the scene of an accident, they talk to drivers and any witnesses, observe the damage, and prepare an accident report. It usually takes about 3-5 business days before the report is available. The report serves as an objective account of what happened. It includes insurance information for both parties, and it will be an important part of any insurance claim for injuries or vehicle damage. If the police did not come to the scene of the accident, there will not be an accident report.
How Can I Get A Police Report Online
Police reports are available for download at the website buycrash.com, which sells accident reports for many states, including Georgia. You can order a report without knowing the name of the law enforcement agency that investigated the accident, but you will need the following:
- The last name of one of the drivers involved in the accident
- The date of the accident
- Either the VIN of one of the vehicles, the report number, or the drivers license number of one of the drivers
If the report is available, you can download it for a fee of typically under $20. If it is not yet available, you can ask to be emailed when the report is ready.

Record Process And Fees
Within five business days of the receipt of a written request for a record reasonably described, we will send you a letter either: making such record available denying such request in writing or furnishing a written acknowledgment of the receipt of such request. If you have not received a letter within five business days, please contact us at .
An acknowledgment letter will provide you with an estimate of when the records you request will be available, which shall be reasonable under the circumstances of the request. This date is determined by the number of documents you request, their format, their availability, the time it takes to redact any information that cannot be disclosed pursuant to FOIL, the time it takes to assemble the documents, and other factors.
If the records you request require a fee to be paid, you will be notified prior to the records being released to you. Unless a different fee is otherwise prescribed by statute, Public Officers Law §87 authorizes an agency to charge a fee of 25¢ per page for copies of records up 9x 14 in size, or the actual cost of reproducing a record. In determining the actual cost of producing a record, an agency may include only:
Accordingly, pursuant to Public Officers Law § 87 , the following fee schedule is in effect for records requested from the State Police:

How Can A Police Report Help In An Injury Case
While a police report itself probably will not be admissible in civil court proceedings, it can go a long way toward gaining negotiation leverage in any personal injury dispute. For example, during informal settlement discussions with opposing counsel or an insurance carrier, you or your attorney can use the facts and conclusions found in a police report to gain an advantage on such issues as:
- Circumstances of the incident, including the time of day, date, specific location, and weather conditions at the time.
- Preliminary assessment of fault, especially in motor vehicle accidents. For example, after a car accident, a police report may contain a responding officer’s observations as to which driver might have violated the state’s vehicle code, or whose carelessness may have caused the accident.
Can I Amend A Police Report
Sometimes the information provided in a police report may be inaccurate. Fortunately, itâs possible to amend a police report in certain circumstances. While amending a factual error in a report is a relatively simple process, amending a disputed fact, such as who was at fault, is typically much more difficult.
You should contact your local department to learn about the appropriate next steps. In many cases, that may involve simply adding your statement to the accident report.
