You have lost or mislaid your property. For example, you spend the day running errands and when you get home you notice your sunglasses are missing. You cannot specifically remember where you last saw them.

If you can remember the last location of the item, do not use this report type report the item as a theft. For example, you leave your phone on the table at a restaurant. After leaving you realize you forgot your phone. Upon returning to the restaurant the phone is gone and has not been turned into the business.

File A Police Report Online

Using the Online Reporting Tool, you can report the following types of incidents:

  • Lost property
  • Destruction of property
  • Damage to property

*Thefts, in which your checkbook, debit, credit card, social security card or social security number, etc. may have been stolen and/or used to purchase other items or services, are considered credit card fraud and/or identity theft, and should not be filed online using this application.

What Happens After I File A Report Online

  • You will be given a temporary police report number.
  • Your report will be reviewed, and when approved, a Case Number will be assigned to your report.
  • If further investigation is necessary, you will be contacted via email or telephone. If contacted, you will have seven days to reply.
  • You will be provided a copy of the police report to keep for your records.

When Should I Call Police Instead

  • If you have a known suspect. If you know the name or address of the suspect, or if you know the license plate of the vehicle associated to the suspect, please contact Peel Regional Police at 905-453-3311
  • If the value of theft, loss or property damage is more than $10,000.00
  • If your vehicle has been stolen
  • If the incident occurred outside of Brampton or Mississauga. Please contact the police service responsible for the area in which the incident occurred
  • If someone broke into, or attempted to break into your home, garage or business
  • If this is the theft or loss of a firearm
  • If this is related to any form of personal violence, including domestic violence.
  • If this is related to any kind of vandalism or graffiti that could be hate motivated
  • If this is related to a traffic complaint that is in progress

Criteria For Filing An Online Report:

  • This is not an Emergency
  • You must have a valid email address to use this system. Your email address will not be used for any other purpose.
  • There are no known suspects – either person or vehicle – and there is no visible physical evidence at the scene
  • If the incident occurred on a provincial highway or outside the Saskatoon Police Service jurisdictional limits – refer to the FAQ.
  • Only the types of reports below are allowed to be completed online – see definitions for each type.
  • Reports may not be filed on behalf of a 3rd party except in the case of children. Reports must be filed by the actual complainant, owner or authorized representative.

If your incident falls within the above criteria, you are ready to file your report online. Please make sure to turn off your pop-up blocking software before filing the report.

What If I Need To Change My Report After I File It

You will have the ability to file online supplemental reports. If you have already filed a report through the online system, we strongly encourage you to continue to update and add information through this system. This decreases the risk of filing the same report twice, and also makes it easier to keep your information tied to the correct report number.

In Ontario, most pieces of identification, such as birth certificates, driver’s licences, health cards etc., are issued by the provincial government. Lost pieces of provincially issued identification should be reported to ServiceOntario.

If your identification, immigration documents or other government-issued documentation was lost or stolen in York Region, you should also complete a Lost or Stolen Official Document Form and bring it to York Regional Police at your nearest police district.

If the crime you would like to report is an emergency, call 911 immediately! It is an emergency situation if life or property is at immediate risk, or if an incident is in-progress. File a supplemental report if you want to add information to your original report or to a report that has previously been filed by an SFPD officer. To file a supplemental police report, click on the “File a Police Report” link above, select the appropriate incident type, follow the prompted questions, and select ‘supplemental report’ when prompted.

Use the supplemental report method to report:

  • Additional property losses from the same crime
  • Additional details to describe stolen property, such as a serial number.
