As part of an ongoing effort to enhance efficiency and better serve members of our community, the Greater Sudbury Police Service is pleased to offer Online Police Criminal Record Checks.

All aspects of the process including verification of identity and fee processing are handled electronically using a platform provided by Forrest Green Solutions, a secure third-party provider.

In order to authenticate your identification, you will be asked questions relating to your employment, residence, banking and/or credit history that only you and a licensed consumer credit reporting agency would know the answers to. The answers are verified by the licensed consumer reporting agency and the information is not shared with our Police Service.

How Long Does A Police Background Investigation Take

The process of background investigation is quite sophisticated and includes checking several facts and places in order to get full account of your past activities. Depending on whether you have resided in several places or worked for several employers prior to applying for a law enforcement job, it may take anything for couple of weeks to several months.

If you are applying for a position in any of the federal law enforcement agencies, such as U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the complete pre-employment investigative screening, which includes collection and review of fingerprints and the Questionnaire for National Security Positions, the polygraph exam, and the background investigation, can take 12 months and even more. This is due to the fact that for most of the positions the candidate needs security clearance that they are eligible for access to classified information.

All in all, the background investigation is a lengthy process and you need to be patient and remain at the agency disposal until it is completed.

To Obtain Criminal History Record Information You May Do Any Of The Following:

• Apply in person: walk-in service is provided at the public counter at 33 Hazen Drive, Concord, Room 106A
• Mail in an application
• A release to a third party (Notarization is not required.
• Request your ownConfidential record.
• When mailing in this request Notary Public or Justice of the Peace Signature, Date and Seal are required.
• When requesting at the public counter Valid photo ID is required

Calgary Police Service Checks

Calgary service can conduct three kinds of checks.

Local Police Check for Record Suspension

If you want to get a Record Suspension, two kinds of police information checks have to be done.

First, you have to complete a fingerprint-based search above.

Once you have obtained the RCMP Criminal Record check, submit it together with a Record Suspension Application form to the police.

The Calgary Police Service will complete a report, which can include:

• Pending charges
• Convictions not shown in the RCMP database
• Other police issues speeding tickets, peace disturbances, etc.
• Charges that didnt end in convictions

Criminal Check done by the Calgary Police

This is a new kind of check done by the Calgary police. Upon completion, they give a criminal record check printout to the applicant.

This report will show whats on your criminal record. Youll have to wait up to 10 days to get the report.

The search is also done based on your name and birth date, without any fingerprints needed.

Note: this police information check is not valid for:

• Waivers
• Majority of employment purposes

Vulnerable Sector Search

A Vulnerable Sector check is needed for applicants who will work with people in the vulnerable group persons with disabilities, children, and the elderly.

A Vulnerable Sector Check searches the RCMP database and shows all convictions registered therein. This includes convictions in the vulnerable sector that were suspended or pardoned.

In PersonYou may make a request for conviction CHRI based on an individuals name and date of birth by completing a Request for Conviction Criminal History Form in person or you may make a request for conviction CHRI by submitting a full set of fingerprints in person. Note: Children are not allowed in the fingerprinting room and must be supervised at all times.

How Long Will It Take To Process My Record Check

We strive to complete our record checks as soon as possible, but depending on our current volume of requests, wait times can vary. We will update the banner that pops up when you initially click on the Record Checks option on our website to let you know our current estimated processing times. If you are notified that your record check will be mailed, that can take an extra estimated delivery time of 5-7 days through Canada Post.

How To Get A Texas Background Check

Getting a TX background screening is a process that may be conducted in person or online conveniently from an internet-enabled device. Criminal background checks in the state are overseen by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The Computerized Criminal History System supplies information on arrests and prosecutions for Class B misdemeanors and greater. Texas online background check requestors provide identifying details on subjects to conduct criminal record checks.

How Will I Receive My Record Check

You will receive an email notifying you that your record check is complete. You will then sign into your online account and download an electronic copy. Further instructions will be provided in the e-mail. If your record check needs to be mailed out using Canada Post, then you will still receive an email notifying you that it is being mailed.

Certified Criminal Record Check

A certified criminal record check is similar to the regular criminal record check, except that it includes a full set of fingerprints from an authorized agency. You may need a certified criminal record check for adoption, citizenship or visa applications or work permits. Certified criminal record checks are done through your local RCMP detachment. Denying Vulnerable Sector Checks

The police service will use information submitted by the applicant to determine if the position meets the legal requirements to conduct a vulnerable sector check. If the position does not meet the requirements of the Criminal Records Act for a vulnerable sector check, it is illegal for the police service to conduct one.

The Criminal Records Act does not allow vulnerable sector checks to be conducted for the purpose of adoptions. However, based on other provisions in the Criminal Records Act, a local police service may request fingerprints in order to check if adoptive parents have record suspensions for sex offences. The RCMP strongly recommends that a check of local police records accompany any adoption request completed by Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services .

Why Background Checks Happen

Specific reasons for conducting background checks vary depending on who needs to run the check.

This normally includes a check of the National Repository of Criminal Records based on the applicant’s name and date of birth and may include checks of other national databanks.

Some companies may request name-based checks of other national databanks. Note, however, that not all police services contribute to these databanks, and those that do may not share all of their information.
