What Is The Citizen And And Youth Police Academy

The Citizen and Youth Police Academy is a 9 week course designed to give Surrey residents and youth an inside look into policing. This interactive learning series aims to foster a better understanding between Surrey citizens and the RCMP and explore what the community can do together to enhance public safety.

Sessions are held Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:30 pm from Sept 21 to Nov 16, 2022 at the Surrey RCMP Main Detachment.

The Academy will feature presentations and demonstrations by police officers and staff on a variety of topics including:

What Is The Citizen’s Police Academy

UHDPD Planning Citizens Police Academy

If you have ever wondered what it takes to operate a law enforcement agency, how we make critical decisions, how we spend taxpayer dollars, or just what its like to be an officer in Grand Junction, this class is for you.

The Grand Junction Citizens Police Academy is a free, fun, and informative 10-week program designed to provide citizens with comprehensive information about the operations of the Grand Junction Police Department, often not known by the public. It is our hope that the information provided will foster a relationship that will assist in a safer community and a more informed body of citizens.

The intent of the Citizens Police Academy is to build partnerships with the residents of our great city and to provide robust and transparent information about how our agency operates. We want to provide an opportunity for attendees to get to know more about the men and women who are protecting their community and learn how and why they make the decisions they do while performing their duties.

The Fall 2021 Academy will take place from September 16-November 18. Classes take place on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Grand Junction Police Department, with the exception of one class that takes place off-site on Saturday afternoon, November 6.

Apply For Citizens Police Academy

We are currently taking applications for the 2020 Citizens Police Academy and you may sign up below for the class. The cut off date is March 1, 2020 or until the class is full. There are only 20 slots available so sign up today!

Criteria that must be met to be eligible for the Citizens Police Academy:

  • Must be eighteen years of age
  • Must be a resident or work in Goodlettsville
  • No felony convictions
  • No convictions for DUI, possession or sale of any controlled substance, or for any offense involving moral turpitude.
  • Participation in five of the seven weeks of the class.

Information On The Citizen Police Academy

The Cincinnati Police Department began its first Citizens Police Academy in 1995. Since that time, we have graduated more than 900 civic minded individuals. The Cincinnati Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy is an 8 week program designed to provide better understanding between citizens and the police through education. The CPD hosts two annual sessions, one in the spring and one in the fall.

Who May Attend The Citizen’s Police Academy

Any interested citizen who resides or works in the City of Canyon is encouraged to attend. Citizens involved with the community in some way, such as youth involvement, neighborhood watch, and neighborhood groups are very important to the academy. You must be at least 18 years of age. Due to the sensitive nature of some of the topics, applicants will be subject to a limited background check to determine their suitability. Spring 2022 Citizen Police Academy Applications

On behalf of Mayor Kathy Sheehan and Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins we invite our fellow citizens to apply to the Albany Citizen Police Academy.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2022 Spring Citizen Police Academy. The start date is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13th, 2022. This fourteen week course meets every Wednesday evening from 6pm 9pm at The Albany Police Academy, 215 Washington Ave Ext. Albany, NY 12205.

Albany’s Citizen Police Academy is a unique opportunity to increase understanding between citizens who live in or work in the City and Albany Police through education. Weekly classes will cover various topics designed to dispel suspicions and misconceptions and increase rapport between the citizens of Albany and the police with a goal of making the officers more aware of citizens feelings and concerns on police related matters.

The Citizens Police Academy is an 10-week program, offered once a year and is designed to present an overview of law enforcement and the job of a police officer. The classes are held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 PM until 10 PM.

Topics include crime scene investigation, juvenile laws, gang and drug enforcement, accident investigation, DUI enforcement, traffic stops, SWAT, community policing and other relative topics.

What Will Participants Learn

Certified police officers, supervisors, and civilian instructors with particular expertise will conduct each topic. Topics include:

  • Criminal law
  • Crisis intervention
  • Polygraph

A vital part of the Academy is participation in role-playing and scenarios. These simulations will provide an opportunity for a unique “hands-on” learning experience. Students will also have the option, on a voluntary basis, to “ride along” with a patrol officer, a CPR course, and take a tour of the Fayette County Detention Center, Blackburn Correctional Complex and TSA at the airport.

Beckley Police Department

  • Must be a resident of Beckley or Raleigh County.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must produce valid photo identification.
  • May not presently be under indictment or under an order of protection from the courts.
  • May have no felony convictions against them.
  • May have no misdemeanor arrests two year prior to the academy entrance date.
  • May not have been involuntarily committed to a mental health facility.
  • Will provide the department with a release for a criminal background investigation.
  • Will sign a waiver of liability to participate in the program.
  • Expectations for Participants

    Classes will start promptly at 6:00 P.M. and end at approximately 9:00 P.M.

    However, if we run late, or if you have a commitment and must leave, feel free to do so.

    No dangerous or deadly weapons are permitted to be carried or concealed by students of the academy.

    • Dates: The Citizens Police Academy is usually held twice a year and involves a 33-hour block of instruction, consisting of a three and 1/2 hour class, every week for 10 weeks. The times of the class are usually 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

    You are disqualified from joining the Citizens Police Academy if any of the following apply. The following are also grounds for dismissal from the program once you are approved.

      • Class B Misdemeanor in the past ten years .
      • Family Violence offense conviction.

    Citizen Police Academy Celebrates 26 Years

    Citizens in the service area of the Unified Police Department and the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office are all openly invited to enroll. Preference will be given to those living and working in our jurisdictions.

    Previous attendees have been community council members, neighborhood watch members, teachers, bankers, homemakers, business owners, lawyers, students and others. People from all walks of life and with a variety of history with law enforcement have participated in and benefited from the academy.

    Why Participate

    The Livingston Police Department follows the philosophy of Community Policing and is committed to developing partnerships with citizens of the Township. The Citizens Police Academy provides an opportunity for citizens to develop direct lines of communication with the police department.

    The citizens participating in the academy will gain a working knowledge of the Livingston Police Department and its functions. We hope that the program will strengthen police-community rapport through an educational process, increase understanding of police practices and procedures, and dispose of misconceptions. The police department, in turn, becomes more aware of the concerns and questions of the community it serves.

    Who Can Attend

    Participants must be at least 21 years of age and reside or work in the Township of Livingston. They must be of good moral character. There will be a criminal history conducted on each applicant prior to acceptance into the academy. An application for the academy must be completed and signed along with a waiver of liability. You will be notified when you are accepted into the Citizens Police Academy.

The authorization to obtain information is necessary so a background check may be conducted on applicants due to the sensitive and in-depth nature of the Citizens Police Academy.     All applicants will be reviewed by the Surrey RCMP with selection based on the following criteria:

    • Resident, student, or business owner in Surrey
    • Adults: 18 years of age or older
    • Youth: Surrey student in grade 10, 11 or 12
