When North Korea invaded South Korea in June 1950, there were some MP units stationed in Korea. One of those was the 55th Military Police Company, which had been assigned to Camp Ascom in December 1948. Most of those military police units that arrived during the early months of the war came from Japan, where they were serving as occupation forces following World War II. While the majority of MP companies came from outside Korea, most of the battalions of the Korean War were formed on the peninsula

    Education And Skill Requirements

    Military police officers must be at least 18 years old and they must be enlisted or commissioned in one of the four branches of the United States military. They must be eligible to receive a confidential security clearance, which will require a background investigation. To be accepted into military police training, prospective MP’s must have a relatively clean past, with no criminal record or prior history of drug use.

    MP’s receive extensive instruction in law enforcement techniques and tactics after they complete basic training. Once they complete all of their training, they are assigned to a military police unit and may be deployed anywhere in the world.

    Canadian Forces National Counter-Intelligence Unit

    The CFNCIU is responsible to provide Security Intelligence and Counter Intelligence services in support of the CF and the DND during peace, crisis and war. The mission of the CFNCIU consists in identifying, investigating and countering threats to the security of the CF and the DND from foreign intelligence services, or from individuals/groups engaged of espionage, sabotage, subversion, terrorism, extremism or criminal activities. The CFNCIU is a national level, specialist unit responsible for the provision of counter-intelligence services to the CF and the DND.
