If you were accused of a crime and your case is pending , then you are entitled to a copy of the police report. You can obtain a copy of the police report by requesting one from the District Attorney’s office who is handling the case. You or your attorney can make this request, and generally the District Attorney has a maximum time line for compliance in other words, they must give you a copy within a set number of days.
If the outcome of the case has already been decided- the case was dismissed or you were found guilty or innocent- then you can request a copy of the police report from the court. The court may charge you a copy fee for this service.

What Is A Police Report

The information contained in the typical police report may vary from county to county, but most capture very similar information.

How To Access Your Police
Members of the public have the right to request records containing their personal information from the Ontario Provincial Police or a municipal police service. All Certificates of Conduct will be mailed via United States Postal Service after the completion of processing. Processing and mailing should occur within ten business days.

Request From Ppd Records Department
- You must make an appointment to pick up the report.
- The Records Office can be reached at 243-6416 or at .
- Appointments can be scheduled between the hours of are 8:30 AM to 2:30.
- There are times when the police reports you seek will not be available at the time of your request. Please be advised that the Access to Public Records Act gives a public body ten business days to respond.
- If you feel you have been denied access a police report, you have the right to appeal to the Police Chief.
- If you are still not satisfied, you may file a complaint with the Department of Attorney General, located at 4 Howard Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920, or file suit in Superior Court.
How Do I Obtain A Police Report
In most cases the public portion of police reports can be obtained from the APD Incident Report Database. Please read the Incident Report Database instructions on how to obtain the report. Make sure to enter the case number exactly how it is shown in the instructions.
For information about purchasing a copy of the public portion of a police report contact the Austin Police Department Report Sales Unit at 974-5499. Reports can be purchased at the Main Police Headquarters, located at 715 E 8th Street. Reports are 10 cents a page and only the public portion is available for purchase from the report sales office. This is the same report that can be obtained from visiting the APD Incident Report Database. Report Sales new hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Restrictions to right of access
Submitting a request for access does not guarantee that you will obtain the desired documents.
The SPVM may refuse to transmit a document or confirm its existence if it contains, for example, information that may interfere with an investigation being conducted, reveal investigation methods, place an individual in danger or cause harm to an individual who provided the information or who is involved in this matter.
Time frame
The time frame set out by the Act respecting Access to Documents is no later than 20 days following receipt of the request, either by giving access to the documents requested, explaining why the documents are not accessible, or referring the requester to the appropriate organization.

California Family Code § 6228 provides that victims of the alleged crimes, listed above, may receive a copy of their incident report within five days of their request, free of charge. Due to the sensitive information included in the reports, SFPD protocol requires in-person identification verification. Victims or their designated representatives must either submit their request in-person or pick-up their incident report in person at CISU Records Management. How Do I Get A Copy Of A Police Report
